New feature? Unpaid item strikes for buyers?

You can now cancel an order for “buyer didn’t pay” INSTANTLY instead of having to wait 4 days and give a buyer an unpaid item strike.

Is this a bug or a new feature to do it so quickly?

Re: New feature? Unpaid item strikes for buyers?

From the other side, a seller friend told me yesterday that ebay cancelled one of her unpaid sales at the 3 1/2 day mark with the reason "changed mind" rather than the ones we used to get for non payment. She was more than a little ticked off whether it was the buyer getting ebay to cancel or ebay not giving the buyer the full 4 days to pay.

So why a whole 4 days?  Why are 4 days needed?  It should be a shorter time period.  It holds up inventory from someone who actually would buy it if they wind up not paying.

I think it would be an improvement to drop it to 24 hours.  If they can't pay within a day, they shouldn't be purchasing it altogether.

I have had many buyers who win something on auction from me, and are also bidding on my other auctions that ended at staggered dates. I see this scenario as a valid justification for a four day threshold for payment.

kyle@ebay can you please confirm if this was a technical issue and if so, has it been fixed or was this a test that has ended?

Re: New feature? Unpaid item strikes for buyers?

I'm thinking the same way you are.

This is what I understand from my experience of the issue and I'm sure there is even more to it: When sellers are requiring that instant auto pay, the buyer needs to make sure the funds are immediately there to pay when seller accepts buyers offer.

This process seems to be based on 'buyer offers' only from my experience.???

Some negatives I see right now is if the buyer is making offers on multiple items from the same seller, there seems to be no way to combine shipping and get a discount. This would have to fall back on the seller to do the right thing and issue a partial refund or possibly received neutral / negative feedback for excessive shipping fees. The buyer should contact the seller on the issue before making multiple offers for a shipping discount.

The buyer is making offers to multiple sellers and losses track of all the offers and if the funds are there to cover all. I would think if the buyer did not plan ahead on funds and depending on what payment source they are using, they could possibly be hit with an insufficient fund's fees for every transaction.

eBay will push shoppers away when all eBay needs to do is confirm all new members, their payment format, and their address.

This was all achieved when it was only eBay & PayPal.

kyle@ebay devon@ebay elizabeth@ebay anything you can share on this? A little transparency would go a long way here.

@valueaddedresource At this time we have not seen any tickets or reported bugs for this but we are still looking into it.

Update:

@valueaddedresource @agemelee We now have a site wide ticket open for the issue of sellers being able to cancel a sale before the four day period. If any member has experienced this please reach out to customer support and let them know that you are running into ALERT15031.

Otherwise, it is yet another giant leap forward in annihilating eBay.

As it is described here, I don't see this as that big a deal.

Re: New feature? Unpaid item strikes for buyers?

Sorry, folks.  Let me admit first that I am no longer a seller.

But, if eBay shortens the time a buyer has to pay significantly, I will no longer be a buyer either.

Usually pay immediately, but not ready to get a strike because I did not return to eBay within 24 hours to see if I was the winner or the loser of an auction.

Sorry but I don't understand that.  Why bid on something if you aren't interested enough to check on closing day?  Also there are phone and outside-eBay email notifications that you've won, unless you specifically turn them off.  No offense but I'd be fine with a buyer base refined to those who really want what they bid on, and pay for it as quickly as possible, or at least communicate quickly if there's a delay in their payment.  That's how I do with auctions I win.  I would be at least a little mortified if let 24 hours go by after winning without at least contacting the seller.

"And, if you will read that response carefully, you will see that he/she IS doing something about it. "

No, he isn't.  If YOU read carefully he only recommended that somebody else reach out to CS so a ticket can be written up.   That's nothing, not something.  The next time you see an eBay employee chime in saying HE is writing up a ticket let me know because it will be rare sighting.

As a seller who uses the auction format almost exclusively I can fully understand why a buyer may not pay for a day or two. With an auction you never know if the bidder is sitting at their computer or constantly checking the app. As a seller there are times when I am out of touch with the network either because I am camping, hiking or off on some adventure where the internet is not accessible and it could be any day of the week. People also have other things going on in their lives like family, emergencies, natural disasters..............   With BIN you know for sure the user is at their computer or on the app when they make the purchase. I have had bidders who would up in the hospital, got hit by hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and at least one that died.

Hmmmmm...........so if you LIKE the opportunity to not wait 4 days.......you shouldn't report the "problem" and maybe it won't be corrected........for you?
