So, I sold at item for $15.77 last month and looked at my statement. It shows closing value of $12.75 with a difference of $3.02. If my calculations are correct. Final value fees would be about 19%. Is that correct? If so, how are managed payments supposed to be better for us? Before it was Ebay 10% and Paypal 3% and change. Pulled all my listed items because I do not want to give Ebay access to my bank information. Anybody else see their fees increase?

I don't like paying anyone fees, but around here the auction house fees are much higher than ebay's fees.

PULLED ALL MY ITEMS AS WELL, AND I'M NEVER GOING TO SELL ON EBAY AGAIN.
IF ENOUGH SELLERS DO THIS, MAYBE EBAY WILL GET THE PICTURE.
I SELL LOTS OF STUFF ON FB MARKETPLACE, WHICH IS FREE.
LET'S ALL SWITCH AND SHOW THESE **bleep**S WE MEAN BUSINESS.

they are not charging fees on sales tax which doesn't go to you, if they did, its an error call them for credit

incorrect: fvf fees are charged on the total amount of the transaction, which includes shipping and sales tax.

Where have you obtained your information? eBay's final value fee is calculated on the total transaction, the item price, the shipping fee AND the state sales tax (if any) that the buyer paid.

I sold an item for $15 + SH of $4.5 = 19.50. I received in the end $13.24( a difference of $6.26). That is a loss of 32% and a return of 68%.
What it should have been based on the above solution:
State: 6% of 19.5= 1.17
Final value fee = (19.5 x 12.35% ) + .30= 2.71
$19.50 - $3.88 = $15.62
So, it is really bad!!
This a calculated above does not reflect the same amount withheld. This really isn't right.

I dont know, but it appears to me the selling price was $15.77(without sales tax or shipping) and the fees of $3.02(including the fees on sales tax, shipping and the .30 transaction fee) push the overall fees paid over 19% - Most all of our sales in the $15-$20 range have fees between 16%-20%. That is the norm and always increasing with all the shrewd pocket-digging schemes they continuously come up with on this site.
Could also be you bought into that "Promoted Listing" Program? - You know, that exploitative program where they actually make you pay them more money for higher visibility, which is basically the only service you really get for basic fees you pay for in the first place! - It's like they are staging a death match between sellers - pushing you to use the "trending rate" or go above it, to claw your way past the masses, which in turns raises the trending rate - Its like putting the noose around your own neck - where does it end?? - Sad thing is, if everyone used it(which is surely what they would like to see), you would have the same visibility you had before you started using it, but now you're paying 5-8% more in fees - But wait the vicious cycle continues, because now you have a higher trending rate - So now you need to use or go past that trending rate you helped increase to get better visibility, which in turn raises the trending rate!.... see where this ends??? See how you are just tightening the noose EVERYTIME You use this oppressive scheme - And the icing on the cake is, it seems to me, no matter how well you perform as a seller, your visibility gradually gets reduced in order to force you into thinking you need to use that malign program... I'll never pay a cent toward it

I calculated this on yours. I am guessing that $3.88 was the shipping fee? What was the total fees you were charged? Is that a older sale because the fees have gone up a little.

Yes, I just sold an Item for $18.00 shipping was $21.10 total $39.10. eBay charged $5.53 fees. In my transactions details it said fees based on $41.69? 12.55% of $41.69. Why are fees based on the total including
the shipping. My total was $39.10 not $41.69. The item was only $18.00. Where did $41.69 come from? Sellers
are being ripped off. I don't use eBay print shipping labels. I package the item, pay for packaging material, drive to UPS and let them print the label. eBay is including the shipping cost in final value fees. Why, so they can rip sellers off. Its a scam. I have started to list my items on another site and if it works out I will slowly do away with eBay.

The difference between $39.10 vs $41.69 is probably the sales tax that the buyer paid.
eBay has been charging final value fees based on the buyer's entire payment (including shipping) since 2011. The main reasons were to (1) reduce fee avoidance, such as sellers charging $1 for the item and $50 for shipping; and (2) encourage sellers to offer free shipping which usually requires them to add the shipping cost onto the asking price for the item.
Final value fee is based on the buyer's payment. It is not connected to where you purchase your shipping labels.

I agree with racingoval, ebay has change it fees, that is a total rip off. I sold a item for 5.00, the buyer paid for shipment. The total charge was 12.63. Ebay fee base was on 13.67. The buyer is from Texas, which is 6.25 sales tax. Sale taxes would be .31.25 on 5.00 dollars.
Even if they added the sale tax to the final sale which is 12.67 that would be .79
If they are basing the fee 13.67 that is 1.O4 differents. How did they come up with that number?
I have a feeling that ebay is sticking their financil troubles to the sellers. I had pulled most of storefront items from ebay and now going with esty. I did left some items in my storefront, that I know I can take a hit with Ebay's fees.

please disregard if inappropriate, and I have been absent from the fun ebay provides us for awhile..but why does the seller pay for the .77 cents sales tax?..as a buyer at local store I the buyer pays the sales tax, not the store
07-18-2021 12:18 PM
That's not correct. The tax is added TO the sale amount, not taken out of it.

Paying fees on sales tax seems iffy.
I can see charging fees on shipping because they facilitate the process.
They do distribute the tax funds to the different states and manage the process.
I guess that is the reasoning. For $100 with a 8% tax rate it is $1 for 12.5% FVF
Really seems that should be included in the buyers responsibility.

You really, really should be speaking to an eBay CSR about why your fees are so outrageous. First you state they are a minimum of 50% (“50% and over”.) Then 2 sentences later you state they are about 90% “(I am only getting about 10%).” Can you show us an invoice that backs this up? Something is very wrong with your account. I pay .30 plus 12.35 %. Ask them why you are paying so much more. It makes no sense.
