This scam seems to be active again in 2025. Within 6 hours of posting an item, I received an offer from one buyer and then a full price sale from a second buyer with a very similar user name. Just didn't seem right. Beware out there.....

Which scam are you referring to? There are legitimate forwarding services in New Castle. Delaware has no sales tax so it's a popular site for forwarding businesses.

Just a freight forwarder. Not a scam. The buyer may have used a guest account or a second user account, which is allowed.

I sold here for many years and never had a problem selling to buyers using a Freight Forwarder. If you're paid, ship it! ![]()

Freight forwarders are the second safest* addresses a seller can ship to.
When the forwarder receives the shipment the seller is no longer responsible for delivery.
Most forwarders deal with the import fees, preventing the "customs delay " scam.
While sellers remain responsible in NADs, return shipping labels are sent to the forwarder, not to the overseas customer.
*The safest is a USPS mail box, which requires the renter's key.

I photo package with postage on it and email it to buyer stating the country the item is going to and expect it to get to them about 2 weeks later from Delaware, Florida, Oregon, etc.
It has worked for me thus far...with no 'freight forward' problems.
I like how they put 'Suite1 # 690261' which is their account number
I had one with the city called 'Beautiful New Castle' as part of the address.

While sellers remain responsible in NADs,
@reallynicestamps
That is no longer the case. A buyer that uses a Freight Forwarder gives up the option of benefitting from a "not as described" claim. Unfortunately, eBay processes them like any other sale and it is up to the SELLER to take care of the issue and get the claim dismissed (hopefully PRIOR to sending the return label).
This is typically accomplished by contacting eBay via one of their social media links, and explaining that a buyer using a Freight Forwarder has made a NAD claim, and assistance is requested. Too many times sellers don't realize a F. Forwarder was used either, or they have to send a return label due to time restraints. IF a scam claim is underway, it only gets worse with the variations of the "fake return shipping" scenario as well.
The OP @heyoldtimer needs to contact eBay now through one of these:
https://www.facebook.com/eBay/ (use the blue message button)
OR direct message through one of these:
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
https://x.com/askebay
Many of these will reflect the similar scenario of Freight Forwarder problems.

Ebay re-listed the item for me. This is the third time it was listed. Five minutes later, it sold again.... again going to New Castle for what seems is still another buyer from the Far East. The item is an American antique lamp shade. It's something a US collector would buy and so I'm more suspicious than ever. I have worked with "forwarders" in the past, but only with repeat customers.

If it was a laptop or cell phone, I might be worried about a buyer using a freight forwarder, but not a $24 lamp shade.

Suspicious? Don't you think a "buyer from the Far East" would appreciate and want an American antique lamp shade?
Like, perhaps, authentic Tiffany? Maybe amber glass in a style like Art Deco or Prairie School?
"I have worked with 'forwarders' in the past, but only with repeat customers."
In those transactions, were there ever any problems, difficulties, etc.? If not, I don't think you need to worry about this transaction either.
There really is no problem here. Delaware is (still) one of the 50 United States.
When the buyer pays, and eBay notifies the seller that it is time to ship the sold item:
the seller needs to ship the sold item.
Just that simple.

I received notification recently from eBay of a laptop purchase (value $850) from Bestbuy.com where the buyer had hacked my account and added Ivan Mazunin, 266 Cherry Lane, New Castle, Delaware as the delivery address. I did not make this purchase nor do I even live in the US. Even though I reported this within one hour of receiving the eBay e-mail order confirmation, neither BestBuy or eBay were remotely interested in helping me. Neither party cancelled the transaction and, to my amazement, BestBuy even shipped the laptop to this criminal's address. A 10-second check on Google maps indicates a fairly derelict industrial unit. I also informed my credit card company at the time who are currently investigating the fraud.
In summary, don't expect eBay to resolve anything on your behalf. I will not be using them again.
