Shipping a heavy, large set of dishes. No, sir. No way. This old boy will NEVER do that again. 5 boxes later, a bushel of bubble wrap, tape, wrapping paper, etc. I don't care what they pay. It's not enough. Took most of my day. Hope it gets where it's going. Unbroken. Oh, sure. I knew better when I bought all of it. Never again.

Well, I'm late back to this party. So did you sell them to the cherry-picker who was dressing out her Thanksgiving table?

A different buyer than the one you discussed recently? I always think about the shipping first when I consider buying something for resale. Last year I had a set of desirable dishes that I obtained for $3.00, and even then I almost didn't buy them because of the shipping. I ended up piecing them out, but didn't offer but one listing at a time so that no buyer could ask for them to be shipped together. That would be nightmarish. Good luck.

Totally see where your are comiNg from. I’m about to take two heavy sets of dishes to Goodwill. Let another picker deal with them. Lol

You’ve done the most important thing - figured out that your profit per hour is important 🙂

I hope your price + shipping factored in the expense of the packing materials plus your time.
Most sellers around these parts are complaining about no sales. Even though you're spent, it feels like we should give you a high five for making the sale.

When I first started ebay, a family member found out and volunteered to give me cases and cases of old unused heavy ceramic dinner plates still in their packaging. Run of the mill cheapy plates from like Walmart or Target, dollar store, etc. She thought she was really helping me out saying I'll make so much money off of them (she was a bit of a hoarder).
Took me forever to pick them up and load/unload them all. I thanked her for them and donated them all to goodwill the next day.

I used to do it, too. When you get over your ordeal, I have a couple of 1950s service for 12 + accessories sets of Noritake Porcelain....you can have them real cheap, but you have to pick them up....LOL! I feel you pain. For me, packing was not the main problem. Even thinking about taking a return would give me nightmares.

Yes. Am I crazy or what???? She wouldn't let go of it. On and on. I'm sure I'll end up eating the cost.

Glad you learned from your mistake. Unfortunately this could be just the beginning of your troubles. Pray they arrive without breaks.

We have all been there. The what is **&& was I thinking " sale. The good news is you don't forget that quickly. Too big, too much, how big of a box will that take are always on my mind when shopping for inventory.

^^^y'all see why I sell paper?^^^
It was bad enough years ago wrapping jar candles. I can't even wrap my brain around wrapping up an entire set of dishes.

Once in a while I'll sell a large one of a kind item.
I will just kind of "ball park" the shipping charge.
"Ah $40 should cover it."
It never does. I always underestimate!!!!

Certain steering columns sell for pretty good money, but I am picky about buying them because finding a box that is roughly 5x5x30 is a pain.
I can't even imagine trying to ship a large set of dishes.

The most complex thing I ever shipped was a 3 ft long unfinished model wooden boat from the 1950s. I used probably 75ft of bubble wrap and had to make my own frankenbox. Took around an hour or so to wrap and box. That was probably a decade ago and it cost I think $35 or so to ship. I can't even imagine how much it would be now.
Dishes? Yeah...no.
