I just recieved my first negative feedback from a buyer after about 300 positive experiences. The item was listed as a working pull motherboard with processor. The buyer left me negative feedback the day it arrived saying it did not work. The buyer did not contact me to see if I could resolve the issue before tarnishing my reputation on Ebay. We all know things can and do go wrong especially with pc electronics but how can I help someone with their problem if they go straight to slamming my rep before asking for some sort of resolution. I think this policy is wrong and makes no sense. My hope is Ebay will reform this system because it doesn't work.

Yard.........sounds like you want to be right rather than solve the problem......... You can't control how a buyer thinks or acts........the only thing you can do is try to prevent the circumstances that could cause one or more to injure you......... it's called self preservation......
Ebay isn't going to change the policy............

@yanard wrote:I appreciate your response. I had contacted the buyer and offered to make it right but he doesn't seem interested. It seem as though in this case that he is running a slow burn scam. I do believe if ebay would require users to at least make an attempt to resolve an issue before allowing negative feedback everyone would have a better experience. IMHO
Thanks

If you are a TRS, the Buyer cannot leave "immediate feedback, except for Positive. E-Bay makes the Buyer wait 7 days - to cool off, message the Seller, whatever. That is about all e-Bay does as regards FB.

I agree with the solution. 'No returns' is a part of the problem. Buyers, and ebay, want sellers who will stand behind their items.
I can't believe that any honest seller would choose this.

Sadly the OP used an incorrect post as a 'solution' when they shouldn't have.
Negative feedback is met with this statement right after you click 'negative'
Have you contacted the seller? Consider sharing your concerns before you leave feedback
Regarding the overall sentiment of feedback; it doesn't mean a thing in the eyes of ebay and therefore, unless you have dozens of negs, doesn't mean a thing to the average person trying to buy things here.

"some sort of resolution"
did you msg the buyer steps you will take to compensate?
failure to do so means the comment is appropriate. Maybe with support, they may remove it?

I do hope that you realize that there are some buyers that look for sellers with 'no-return' on their listings because it is much easier to get a refund, for most any reason, and not have to return the item.
ebay doesn't care if the seller wants the let the buyer have the item and will not force a return unless the seller states "return for refund" in the dispute that a buyer should initiate. No return does NOT mean no refund.

Hi,
I just read your story, you should inform to eBay and tell whole story to them. I understood may be you as a genuine seller. Any way retry to message or contact with buyer and ask he/she what's this going on?
Humble request to buyer for revision this negative feedback.
Any way you should sell your items very genuinely and quality in eBay community.
Have a good day !
Happy selling.. 😊

No 2 ways about it, if you simply listed an item for sale as working, but it does not work; you do deserve a negative feedback for that. Now a reasonable person would see this negative as a rare exception for an honest seller & discount it, since this will happen to anybody selling a lot of things. You might protect yourself by including a disclaimer on the listing that to your honest belief (having checked the item), it is in working condition, but it cannot be guaranteed absolutely that it will work, as even newly manufactured item sometimes don't work. However, you will gladly give a refund & pay return shipping if it does not work.

There is no way for a 3rd party to know which of seller or buyer was scamming. People do a lot of lying.
But any policy of allowing sellers to lie & say that something was out of stock when it was not, is unfair by Ebay. The buyer is greeted constantly by the admonition that the sale is a legal contract which buyer must obey; yet sellers seem to have free ability to cancel the contract.

This is a 2 yr old thread.
Your responses look like word salad, spaces between your words would make it more understandable and coherent.

Is your space bar not working? Your replies are rather difficult to decipher.
