Negative Feedback After Case Resolution

Issue with difficult buyer demanding money

Bid on and won Toshiba laptop computer.  Only issue with the laptop (as noted in the seller’s notes in ad), was no door on the DVD player, but the DVD drive still worked.

Got a note from the buyer, he dismantled the computer after seeing that it was functioning as promised to add a door to the laptop DVD drive but had to buy a whole new drive as just doors are not sold.  He stated in his very first note to me, after receiving the laptop that he took the laptop apart…..After tearing it apart, he claimed he wanted money for the DVD drive and other fictitious issues he either caused or made up.  Apparently he wants the laptop AND some extorted money from me, an honest 10 year seller on eBay.   Demands ranged from $100 to $75 and even $25 along the way.  Then he claimed he wanted all his money back.  I kindly explained that returns are not possible when an item is no longer in its sold condition as I cannot determine if the item integrity has been compromised.  He filed a return and/or money demand with eBay and their seller protection escalation team found the situation IN MY FAVOR, and the case was closed. 

 

On to 2 days later, buyer leaves me negative feedback.  After 3 hours research, I came up with the fact that buyers are not "allowed" to leave negative feedback for a seller protection case.  I (kindly) called eBay and asked for the feedback team, and they removed the negative within 5 minutes.  I just want to share this for other honest sellers as it may help you someday.  I also want to say thanks to the eBay team for sticking up for us sellers - It was a happy day for me!

That sounds wonderful! I quit my corporate job in 2012 to sell full time on eBay and have never regretted it. Not as much $$ but I too prefer staying home and not having anyone but myself breathing down my neck ^;^ I like staying in my PJ's longer too!


Well, I work for ebay , and they more than make up for any lack of neck breating I lost from being in the corporate world. This isn't our business. We work for ebay. No matter how much we try to tell ourselves otherwise. You can wake up tomorrow, and be suspended, and your business gone.

I also contacted PayPal to note on his record the eBay case. They informed me if that happens to present the eBay claim and they will side with me, including if he does a charge back case. Hopefully that can/will/might work in my favor. I am prepared for that situation with records and notes, etc. I have a felling this guy knows his stuff. So far, however; I also know my stuff!

I win the PP cases and chargebacks too, especially if they lose or close an ebay claim. 

 

But let's get back to what's really important here, total comfort, even during stressful times, always calls for PJ's 😄

As far as chargebacks - please give me ideas - as I presented all my evidence - the Ebay resolution in my favor and the chargeback was still closed in her favor. No item return!

 

I very much want to be able to fight the next one if it happens.

Each credit card company has their own rules. You can appeal any decisions from what I read. It is critical to gather all information from eBay before the 45 days expires as after that you have no access to the documents. They have 180 days to do a charge-back. Time matters when getting evidence. Gather all eBay emails, Address, name, phone, email address, Photos, etc In my case, his first email stated he took apart the laptop to upgrade, assumption, you do not take apart a laptop that is working to install upgrades. He made money demands for the upgrade that was listed in my ad as "missing door to working DVD drive...He wanted a door and you cannot buy "just a door" so he bought a whole DVD drive, then wanted paid for it. He never intended to return the item but then filed a not as described case and continued to demand money for the DVD drive and also made up other fake issues he said he "found" after tearing the laptop apart. He could not - at that point - return the laptop "in the same condition as sent to buyer". Who is to say any damage was not caused by him. My grand-son-in-law refurbished the laptop and he has a degree from Penn State in Computer Technology. Can't get much better than him!

Will Paypal tell you the credit card company the buyer used?  Do you continue to present your evidence thru Paypal.

 

If someone could give a step by step procedure for the rest of us to follow - it'd be a great help.

I don't know of a secret formula to fight any case at any level, but I'm sure it will depend on a number of factors, some of which, but not inclusive are:

 

1- that your claim is legit

2- that the customer claim is legit

3- that you have all your evidence, facts in line, easy to comprehend

4- who you get for customer service

 

I think because for 15 years I was a law clerk, I can see thru all the **bleep** and am able to clearly and factually present my case, showing contradictions, laying out policies, etc. I always write my case on paper and take awhile b4 the call, making sure my emotions are in check. Hope this helps.
