Need Help!

I sold two iPad Pro's on eBay, brand new in packaging. A user purchased the first one on July 31st, and the second one was purchased on August 23rd.  It turns out that it was the same user who bought both.

I woke up at 4 AM today to the notification of a refund request for the first iPad, claiming that it wasn't working because it had my "personal information and social security number". Sleepy, I went to see how we could sort this out later and it appears that not only did I inadvertently start the refund process, but it didn't even wait for him to ship the item back. I woke up later today, and realized what had happened, so I immediately ran to the bank to switch my checking account to prevent PayPal from refunding him the money.

I am at a loss what to do, I cannot cancel the return process. I went and entered his username etc from the PayPal details, and from what I am gathering, he is reselling eBay items on Amazon or another site. Otherwise, it makes no sense how he could claim a brand new iPad did not work because it had my information on it 26 days after he received it.

What my guess is, is that he went and tried to sell it to someone on another site and something happened there between him and the buyer. It does not even let me contact him in on eBay any way shape or form except if I messaged him through the order of the second iPad asking what was going on. I've received no reply at all.

Due to these circumstances, I do not want to be forced to refund the amount to him without finding what is going on. Frankly, I do not want to refund him at all. I originally had "no refunds" on both listings. He has my 2nd iPad too(it was delivered), and eBay has it's usual 21 day hold on the payment. I fear that I will at the very least lose one of the iPads, or the amount it is worth. And at worst he'll be able to keep them both of them/the amounts and try and get my account terminated.

Another argument for not sleeping with your phone and turning it off at night?

Changing your bank account will not prevent paypal or ebay from collecting on your account although if they have a hold on your funds and a refund was issued, then you would lose the hold money.

What options does the case offer? Was it a not as described case?

Please tell me you didn't do that. Do you really think eBay is not going to pursue you for the money?

I don't think you're going to have to worry about the outcome of any of this, because chances are your account will probably be closed because you did that.

Re: Need Help!

If you aren't told that you can no longer sell on ebay, you really need to read, and understand, the policies and terms of service (TOS).

There is no such thing as 'No Refunds' on ebay - no matter what you say or what you put in your listing.  'No Returns', well, that is a different matter - ebay doesn't care if you don't want the item back.  However, you will refund if there is a NAD (not as described) claim or someone invokes the 30 day Money Back Guarantee.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

Re: Need Help!

I've certainly bought new things that didn't work..........no way for you or Ebay to know if it does work.........you can't reverse the refund as far as I know........  whether he will return it....I'd be really nice to him........

Re: Need Help!

The only thing he wrote was

"has not been working properly , has personal info that needs to be taken off . social security number "

I can't even get in contact with him unless I message him with the 2nd iPad as the topic. I did that but I haven't' received a reply

Come back here (if you can) in a few months and let us know how that collection agency works. I've heard they can be a real pain in the hindquarters.

Re: Need Help!

If these problems really exist I'm willing to refund, I just need to know what happened before refunding without receiving the item back. It should not allow you to refund before they ship and it is delivered

If one follows the ebay 'rules of engagement' for returns, the item is (supposedly) returned before refund, should the seller want to have it back.  That means approving the return within the time frame ebay specifies, for whatever reason, and no proof of reason is necessary from the buyer.  Unfortunately, not everyone reads and understands the fine print in the return policies.

Re: Need Help!

I am trying to get in contact with someone at eBay to explain my situation. I'm willing to talk to him, eBay, etc.

These iPads will be the only revenue I'd have made within several months, because I can't work a job right now until I have out-of-state surgery to treat a rare vascular disease. And now this talk about collection agencies...I'm only 21, I don't want my life to have to end because I made a user error and pressed a button prematurely.

Re: Need Help!

I wish you good luck.  If you get someone at ebay, you may get the help you are seeking.  However, it may take getting hold of ebay many times before you get any help that is beneficial to your situation.  I would suggest doing what you can with buyer contact and hope that they are honest.

Re: Need Help!

Thank you. Is there any way to take precaution if he tries to steal/chargeback the 2nd iPad? Assuming he doesn't end up sending the first one back and  tries to initiate another return on the second one, will eBay review and notice that he never sent back the first one?

I contacted eBay to see if they could do anything about the first one, and they can't. But if I can at least save the second one from being stolen I'll be happy.

Re: Need Help!

I'm sorry but there is nothing you can do about it now.  You refunded him.  You can ask for your item back but there is nothing to force it's return.  But if you don't ask for it, you will never get it back.  It's really best to silence your phone at night.  Many people have done what you did while checking the phone in the middle of the night.

Re: Need Help!

I contacted eBay on Twitter and they told me to contact PayPal, to try and block the refund before it left my account
