Nearly 15% in Fee's. Is that correct?

I thought they normally charge 10%. My last sale had a 12.9% Fee plus 30¢. For an item that sold for $30 the total Fees amounted to $4.48 or nearly 15%. (Actually 14.9%).

WoW, you guys are tough

I closing, just let me say it seems to be a matter of terminology, semantics, or whatever

Some insist ebay charges only 12.9% to sell your item

I go by what ebay ACTAULLY charges me to sell my item

Opinions differ, as always

That being said, I don't see ebay's charges as being too high, As I said upthread, the only live auction house around here charges 35%+

Thanks all for your posts & comments

Funny, it's actually 16.43%, I forgot the .30 transaction charge.

There seems to be some really basic math concepts that have been overlooked in your computations, and this is just one example.

Mathematically, it's invalid (or, more plainly, incorrect) to include a fixed-price fee ($ .30) when calculating your percentage, because it will be skewed by the cost of the item. It's simply mathematically unsound.

If a person considers that eBay's 12.9% + $ .30 Final Value Fee assessment is too high, that's fine. Some people think it is, and some people think it isn't; however, trying to prove that eBay's fees are higher with faulty mathematical logic just isn't going to fly.

EBay is not charging fees on the sale.

Managed Payments is charging fees on the payment it processed.

Re: Nearly 15% in Fee's. Is that correct?

Using your method, you can make the percentage look way worse than that if you want.   Figure out what percentage of your selling price (which is what you are doing) by doing the math if your shipping cost is $80. or 120. instead of $15. on your $100. sale.    By adding in all the parts that ebay charges the 12.9% on, and then using that figure to determine the percentage of your base $100. sale, it will always be higher.  That's basic math.

Bottom line, ebay charges the set fees on the total payment.  So when you do the math, by not counting all the parts included when stating you are being charged a higher percentage, it is merely skewing the numbers to show what you want.

I agree with you and it's nice to see someone else voice this rarely-heard point of view. Ebay has its problems to be sure, but for the services they offer I don't begrudge them the 12.9%.  And has been stated, all of the fee info is easily available - it's well worth the effort of reading through everything before diving in. . .

Thank you.  My point was that this is one discussion that has gone into page 4 and that particular member still believes his own version of the fee schedule.  There probably is not anything any of us can say that will convince him otherwise.

I sell an inexpensive widget for $10 but because it was very heavy, it costs $35 to ship. For ease of calculation, I'll assume buyer lives in NH where there's no sales tax so FVF on the $45 sale is $5.81 + 30 cents.

Correct. You sold an item for $10 (money in your pocket), but you had to pay $6.11 in fees. This is why it is very important for sellers to understand up front the cost. It almost always comes out to more than the 12.9% that is being thrown around.

Please show the details of this.  Just some random example will be fine.  Show us the math too on how you come up with that Ebay is charging you more than they do other sellers for your FVFs plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.

I showed you and you just let it go completely over your head. Why are you asking another person to show the same thing. it too will go right over your head.

Once again right over your head. They showed you a perfect example of being charged 16% not 12.9% you keep flaunting.

I'm unsure as to what you are thanking me for.  I got your point from what you posted, it was clear.

If that is your preferred way of seeing it, then there isn't much more I can say.  I posted the math.

I posted the math also but mine came out to exactly the percent on the sold item the seller gets charged.

Keep your eye on the Ebay magical FVF floating percentage rates and their ability to tell you one thing then add up another. hidden percentages are more than you would think. CROOKED is THEIR STYLE.
