Mens Casual Shirts Button down...........as a category with the following "styles" listed:

image.pngCasual Shirts button down.......is simply NOT the right name for this category..........Polo needs to be removed since it is now a category on it's own.........  there are NO buttons on a turtleneck or tank top.  Either change the category name or remove the "styles" which don't apply.......

If someone will affirm it will be changed, I'll drop this.........otherwise you WILL be seeing this request again...........

We can try

Let's make the first suggestion that ebay decides on a direction - works to make the changes to go in that direction - and then WHEN THEY ARE DONE they make the changes live - WITH AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT IT!

I use Turbo Lister to list and ebay is not updating TL about their changes AND they have changed and then changed back - the clothing category is a hot mess right now.

AND for anyone selling clothes - the changes ebay made means that the old listings you have are obsolete and need to be recreated to cover the new categories and Item Specifics.  If your sales are dropping, that is why, the category the items are in might not exist anymore and not be included in search.

I listed a man's pullover vest a few days ago and found out when I went to the SYI form that mens vest subcat doesn't exist anymore.

And that part of preparing to implement any change requires a robust Change Management system

1. test the changes under all likely uses (and some unlikely ones too)

2. get feedback from real users - and other eBay developers - on impact of the changes

3. communicate the changes ahead of time

4.  be able and willing to roll back changes that cause chaos

Change Management is not a new discipline - there are MANY well-documented, tried and true methodologies.

Why doesn't eBay know this?

You'd think that a company that wants to be known for selling data would be aware of it.

My guess is that ebay knows it will cost them money that they can't get the sellers to foot bill for.

Not only did they change all of this, but they changed the existing listings.  I now have 31 listings in the button down shirt category that are either polo shirts, turtlenecks or something else that is NOT a button down shirt.  Can't imagine what they were thinking.  Can't just change the category on the listing to polo shirt, because then you have to redo all the variations and item specifics.  I don't know about everybody else, but for me that is at least several hours of work.

Ah - Item Specifics - that's one of the complaints on my list.

I sell identified antique photos. If I create a listing in category Cabinet Photo and fill in the item specifics, then need to change the category to CDV Photo or Tintype - eBay removes ALL the item specifics when I change the category - when all but one  of them would remain the same! What in the world is the point of removing all item specifics when they can apply to more than one category?

I always thought 'button-down' meant a button down collar?  Am I wrong? (It did happen once, a long time ago, though)

And, if it is the buttons on the front, what is it called if you start at the bottom and 'button-up'?

When was the last time anyone saw a button-down collar on a Hawaiian shirt.  Do they have formal luaus?

Do tank tops have collars?

Why would one need a button-down collar for a Western shirt?  For a bolo tie?

Does anyone work at/for ebay who knows anything about clothing - besides what not to wear to the party?

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The specific changes are good.........we can send them in and maybe sometime they will get done......

Pottery & Glass > Glass > Glassware > Pyrex

needs Pattern added as an Item Specific

I think that instead of ebay having a pile of programmers that have no idea what type of details are needed in each category - ebay should have 3 or 4 basic required specifics that all items in that category should have and then allow sellers to create their own and enter them on each listing.

Sort of a more refined version of Etsy's tags.

I have a lot of Vera Bradley purses and every listing I make sure that I enter a created item specific for the pattern name, and the name of the style of the item - if I know it, and if it is retired or not.  That works so much better than most of the irrelevant options ebay offers.  Like clothing company brands that existed for a couple of years and aren't in business anymore but were trendy when ebay created those IS.

I fully support you! This is a mess. I went all summer with so many item specifics missing and listings were put in the wrong category!

My theory is that if an item specific choice is NOT listed in the drop-down, (and therefore, you enter your own), then you have MORE chance that you will be filtered OUT of search for using a customized specific of your own, and LESS chance to be seen and therefore purchased. Only specifics included in the drop-down list, in my opinion, are included in the algorithm, whereas the customized specific will NOT. I would bet my house that this is the case. So, yes, we need EXPERT product describers to have a say in categorization and specifics development and inclusion .

If they haven't gotten around to fixing the "free shipping" glitch that has been around for years, I can assure you that we would be dead 3 times over before some programmer gets to it.

Agree, button front or button up shirts may or may not have button-down collars--collars with tiny buttonholes and buttons sewn beneath.
