Mega slow lister man - Can anyone beat my clothing steam prep time.....

OK, so I keep watching these Youtube videos where people list 8,000 items in an hour (slight exaggeration). I mostly sell clothing and they show how long it takes them from start to finish to list an item. Most of them who pre-steam their clothing to remove wrinkles allocate from 30-60 seconds per item. Well, I timed myself and it took me 11 minutes & 45 seconds to steam 5 items (one of them was a linen shirt which did gobble up more time). Am I the slowest lister on Earth? I steam the main body of the garment, the sleeves, cuffs and tags (to get them flat for photos). Is this just wasted time? Shame, blame or call me lame. How long does it take you.

I may have your slowliness level beat. I propagate my own plants and it takes near 6 months to get them to sale-able size. And there is the whole keeping sale plants alive while I wait for buyers. Serious upkeep time over here!  It is a second  job that if i calculated hours worked to profit, if would make no sense. I would be better off working extra at my regular job 3 days a month.

I love plants and have done a bit of propagation myself (much smaller scale of course). I like to take cuttings of things like Geraniums, Mint, Coleus and the like, and raise them up. Good luck with your business.

I iron everything because that's when I do a second search for any flaws.  It takes me 5-6 minutes to steam iron a top.  I used to steam only but over and above the looking-for-flaws thing, I never got the items as flat as I wanted to - I realise that perfection is the enemy of done.

Honestly - most of those u-tubers I take with a grain of salt.

I'm a slow lister b/c I'm a perfectionist.  I have never timed my steaming or washing clothes, but it's not 30 seconds LOL.  It takes that long for my steamer to heat up.   I don't think you're wasting your time.  Would you buy an item that's a wrinkled mess?  To me, if a seller doesn't care enough to make sure the items are not wrinkled, then they are careless about other aspect of prep, as well.  I can pretty well guarantee you that most of those YTer's don't even clean their items.  Some are even vocal about it.   I'm sure the difference shows in our ASP's.

Never wasted time. Look at what some other sellers are trying to sell. And I spend more time just listing stamps to make sure I list any imperfections.

Usually those sellers who spend time making their items look perfect will also pack the items perfect and safely.

Thanks for all your replies. Nice to know I am not the slowest preparer/lister  on the planet. I unfortunately have perfectionism programmed into my DNA.

Re: Mega slow lister man - Can anyone beat my clothing steam prep time.....

I can list 100 trading cards an hour easy. But I am also set up for it. I have a mounted document camera so I can take the photos as part of the listing process and I use 5-6 windows across 3 monitors to do it. (Listing window, price research window, existing inventory window, camera window, a trading card database window of some sort and whatever I am listening to on youtube in window 6.

I am much slower on things that I can't use the document camera on.

No shame, blame or lame from me. I'm just grateful I never got into selling clothing!
