Local Pickup QR Code Expires?

Have any of you heard or have been told that the QR and the 6-Digit local pickup code that a customer receives expires in 48 hours?  I've never heard this before, and yet that is what an eBay agent told us when we called into merchant support to get answers on why some of the codes we received from our customers were not being accepted by eBay when we tried to mark their items as picked up.  She told us to make sure that customers pick their items up within a day or 48 hours of paying at the latest.  We have customers that make several orders a week and then come in once a week to pick them all up.  Having them make more trips is not good customer service.  If what we were told was not accurate, please let us know before we start telling our customers they need to not let paid for items go unclaimed for more than 48 hours.

Nope, we've had people pick up much later than that with no problem using the 6 digit code.  Definitely not accurate unless something has dramatically changed.

Re: Local Pickup QR Code Expires?

Thanks for your response!  I am hoping it is not true, but again today, I had a customer come in to pick up his orders.  He had 2 orders, one with 5 items and the other with 19 items.   He provided me with 10 QR codes and their accompanying 6-digit codes.  We went through all the codes and only one successfully went through and marked the order of 5 items as picked up.  The other 9 QR codes and 6-digit codes came up as invalid so we were unable to mark the order of the 19 items as picked up.  The order was paid on 9/16 so it can't be related to codes expiring.   I tried calling merchant support and spent almost 2 hours waiting and finally gave up.

Very odd!  Only thing I wonder is if they were somehow mixed up as to which order they went to? Hopefully you don't have any problems with those orders.  Supposedly you have the option of having them sign a printed copy of their order as an alternative, if you need to try that in the future.

Re: Local Pickup QR Code Expires?

At first, that is what I thought too, that the buyer might be supplying old pickup codes that were not tied to the orders we had for him, but the customer was very cooperative and showed me his phone and we scrolled down the list and each of the codes were tied to items he came in to pickup.  I also took pictures of the 10 QR and 6-digit codes from his screen so I could confirm to eBay if I had to.  We also require our customer to sign a copy of their invoice for us to keep on file in case or future disputes.

Re: Local Pickup QR Code Expires?

Sounds like you should be covered, but that is odd.  You tried!  That's more work than I might have put into it, although I don't know the value of the items, so if they were particularly valuable of course I would have been more willing to spend the time trying to get that part right.
