Did you know that (Relisting an Item) without using (Sell Similar) can put your listing in jeopardy of being taken down as if it never existed, and without any notice?
What Unpublished Secret eBay Rules do you have?

@1tuna wrote:i have noticed that when you do things the ebay way it works out better
ebay gives sellers wide latitude to pick and choose how to get things done
choosing 30 day free returns and 1 day handling time is what ebay likes you to do.
ebay like it all automated with returns and that works good for me
I think ebay overlooks small problems when you do things there way
doing what ebay recommends with regards to returns is the name of the game
ebay is lenient with me and many sellers as far as late shipping goes
ebay does descore the lates by the dozen for me when they happen
You know your right and that's the way it should be for good sellers that fly straight. Like you we always take care of the customers and we follow the (Written Rules). Yet only to be blind sided by this Secret 13th floor.

using the auto relist or just relist places the position when looking for new items in a search down the chain of new due to the origin date.
After a month of sellers bringing up this problem that started at the end of April, eBay finally confirmed it's a bug. There's an open tech ticket on it - you can find the info in the pinned thread on the tech board here if anybody wants their account added to the ticket.
But enough with the legit stuff and back to the conspiracy discussions. 😁

I assume you realize my use of the word conspiracy was tongue-in-cheek because of the thread title. haha
eBay does have unpublished rules (as do most venues) which is because they don't want people to abuse their policies. All we can do is guess at some of those rules based on our experiences which is what most of the posts here are doing.

Does it matter? EBay is watching. 😉

The user agreement states that they can terminate you for any reason.
If we believe you are abusing eBay and/or our Services in any way, we may, in our sole discretion and without limiting other remedies, limit, suspend, or terminate your user account(s) and access to our Services, delay or remove hosted content, remove any special status associated with your account(s), remove, not display, and/or demote listings, reduce or eliminate any discounts, and take technical and/or legal steps to prevent you from using our Services.
If we believe you are violating our policies prohibiting Offers to buy or sell outside of eBay, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits on your buying and selling privileges, restrictions on listings and account features, suspension of your account, application of fees, and recovery of expenses for policy monitoring and enforcement. Also, as provided below in the Fees and Taxes section, if we believe you are violating our policy on buying or selling outside of eBay, you may be charged final value fees.
We may cancel unconfirmed accounts or accounts that have been inactive for a substantial period of time. Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion.

ebay does have a habit of removing older listings, I would agree there is no clear cut answer given by ebay in regards to how its system works to this respect.
I can say they haven't removed any of my listings in years. I still have listings up from 2018 right now.
I have found there are certain things one can do to keep their listings relevant and from being removed though. If you offer some sort of a sales promotion for your products, ebay will be a lot less likely to remove them. For instance, I often offer buy 2 get 1 free deals on my DVD's, music CD's, books, etc. ebay has never removed the older listings, as I think they anticipate all the items will eventually sell given the discounts offered.
Likewise, using sell similar does retain your sales history, and the more successful sales you get of a given product, the higher it will rank and the more likely it will sell in the future.
One of the things I do to keep my listing relevant is end the older ones, review and update them, and relist them with sell similar. This does seem to work, at least for me.

That's reassuring. eBay just bows-up on simple guidance.. Just use my op example. Why would they rather lead sellers over the cliff.

The bigger question is: Why do you bother to keep selling here? You know, with all the conspiracies and such. Not to mention news of one incident that's years old that still bothers you.
06-19-2022 11:45 AM
@fairdeal*lb Hmmm, that's one I haven't heard before BUT I have experienced Sold items being Relisted and selling again (Ghost listings?!?). I also had a 2008 eBay page layout show up ... in and around 2018, I thought it was a whole new page only to learn from older Sellers that it was a 2008 format ... huh?!? How in the world does a 10 year old page layout show up???
So, there are some true mysteries to the venue's programming and depending on the age of the Server one's account resides on or is shifted to during a site update who knows what can happen ...
For myself I don't use Sell Similar much ... only on occasion ...

I bother until I don't, no secret here- Actively liquidating the platform. As to the news: It's because the judgement just came down on said incident..

Hi @fairdeal*lb
I think many of what you’re calling ‘Unpublished Secret eBay Rules’ are more accurately called ‘Unintended Consequences’ of attempted improvements.
Just sayin’.
