Leaving retaliatory feedback

I order a discontinued perfume - saw it said “2.5 oz 1/2” and being new to buying/selling didn’t realize I was buying 1/2 bottle.  Ok my bad - totally didn’t read more carefully so that’s on me, but the bottle arrived literally with a piece of tape over the nozzle and the writing was off the bottle in lots of places.  Still I chalked it up to buyer error.

But…the bottle was literally 1/3 full - not half.  I contacted the  seller who said it was definitely half as advertised.  I took pictures and sent it to eBay who decided in my favor so I could return it for a refund normally not given.  I returned the bottle the same way but double wrapped in bubble and put into a box.   On the bubble wrap I wrote “terrible seller”.  My opinion-

She sends pics of the bottle I returned - showing it smashed in the bubble wrap with a comment “you send me back a smashed bottle with threatening notes”. I would not be surprised if she broke it herself  - and my note wasn’t threatening- it was my opinion

She sends back a stickie that says “I hope you cut and die”.    My comment was threatening?

can she write stuff about me as a buyer?  Rate me poorly?

please don’t berate me as I know I could have held my tongue - but now what?

I wish I could attach pics as proof -

Yes, your opinion. But IMHO not every opinion needs to be expressed in a provocative, passive aggressive, and petty way.

Not really, because sellers are generally at the mercy of buyers. She could try to leave a positive feedback with negative comments, but that is against policy and you should be able to get it removed.

But that being said ... you are buying and selling on the same account. So if your seller wanted to retaliate, there are more subtle ways that could cost you dearly.

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

You returned the item and got a refund?

What's the issue?

BTW a seller can not leave a buyer negative feedback.

BTW I believe it is a ebay violation to list/sell a 1/2 bottle of perfume.

BTW hoping/wishing you die is not a threat.

I would just let it go and move on.

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

Was there original photos of the item showing fullness?

"She sends back a stickie that says “I hope you cut and die”. "

She mailed you something back?

You can leave feedback and upload pictures. She can give you bad feedback. I would block the person if you are selling things because they could buy something from you in revenge and give you bad feedback that way.

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

The seller is selling a lot of items that are not allowed.

Have a great day.

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

The seller violated ebay policy.

Used perfumes can not be sold.

Also the seller was deceptive by using 2.5oz in the title and description ..... they were not selling 2.5 oz.

Oh and the seller listed it as new without box knowing full well it was not..

This seller knew what they were doing to get around ebay policy.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/cosmetics-policy?id=4290

What is the policy?

Cosmetics and perfumes that aren't allowed include, but aren't limited to:

  • Cosmetics and perfumes that have been transferred into another container (such as a bottle, flacon, can, or tube)
  • Counterfeit cosmetics and perfumes pretending to be a branded product
  • Items not in the original packaging
  • Skin-bleaching products
  • Used cosmetics and cosmetic applicators (such as sponges or pencils) that haven’t been thoroughly cleaned prior to sale
  • Used perfume, including partially filled bottles

no it's not a violation.........as long as the used bottle is listed in the right category.......

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

Griff doesn't have a clue, listing in an alternate category to get around a restriction is in itself a policy violation. Maybe that is why Griff is no longer around (just kidding, as the oldest eBay employee I'm sure he didn't need to worry about a few policy violations).

Used bottles are OK but ONLY if they are empty. The seller in this case was selling half filled bottles not empties.

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

Looks half full to me, sorry. It is kind of mentioned in the title where  she adds "1/2" and then again in the description where it says the bottle is 1/2 full.

You bought what she sold you. You got your money back from ebay. You can't blame her, for being angry about how the item was received back,  because the post office could have damaged the return. I'm SURE she probably blocked you. A neutral will not affect their rating btw. I wouldn't include love notes in returns either. That is a very BAD idea and you are just asking for trouble.

As for the other neg that you left another seller, there's no such thing as no returns allowed on ebay. All you had to do was open a case with ebay with  a "not as described", and you would have gotten your money back. Looks like that seller is gone now.

Good luck to you.

If you check the category......you will find used perfumes......  Griff's been selling them for years as have many others........  If you list a used in the wrong category, it will be removed.......

Re: Leaving retaliatory feedback

@kellex11

To me, it looks a lot more like 1/2 than like 1/3.

Regardless -- giving you the advice I would give one of my kids. You never really know who you're dealing with, so rein in your anger or it could get you into trouble, as you've now seen with someone who now has your name and address and hopes you die.
