I sold a personal item on eBay, bought the USPS shipping label through eBay, watched the tracking, item was scheduled for delivery on Friday Sept. 13th, it was “out for delivery” all day Friday, and here it is Monday night and the item hasn’t been scanned as delivered. It is now showing as “waiting for delivery scan” on tracking.
I called USPS today but couldn’t wait for the estimated hold time of 53 minutes. A google search for the actual post office phone number in Beverly Hills CA yielded a number that went right to fax (even though they have a separate fax number too).
Is this a likely case that the postal delivery person did not scan the item at delivery on Friday? If so this really sucks because the item sold for $175 and eBay/PayPal is holding the money until it’s delivered. Thankfully the buyer hasn’t reported it as an INR...yet. But I have a feeling he will even if he received it and sees the tracking shows it was never scanned.
Where else could it be? What else could be happening? Could it have fallen in between the seats of the postal carriers vehicle? Maybe he/she decided to keep it themself? Kicking myself because I thought to insure it, but didn’t because I’ve have very good luck with them lately, and yet I’m somehow not surprised because this was a pricier item than I usually sell, and it’s a used cell phone, which I know attracts sketchy buyers.

Could be they delivered today..........updates to tracking may not be uploaded until midnite or later so I would wait until tomorrow to panic. You can go to the tracking # and put in for email updates.....
If you mailed priority, you have either $50 or $100 (TRS) insurance on the item if it never shows delivery........

I sold an item earlier this year, it said out for delivery. It was still showing out for delivery a few weeks later, the buyer left positive feedback so I know he recieved it. I think sometimes the postal worker just doesn't scan the item sometimes when he delivers.

Thanks for that, panic mode will start tomorrow. I put in for email updates for all activity days ago. Did not use priority but that’s good to know for future items.

I have one item that NEVER received a delivery scan, but the buyer left positive feedback indicating that they liked the item, so they obviously received it. If the buyer has not said anything to indicate that it was not in fact delivered, I would not even worry about it.

I don’t recall how long PayPal will hold money when they don’t receive the tracking delivery confirmation automatically, but I imagine it’s a lot longer than when they do. I’ll never see the money if the buyer claims an INR even if he did receive it but it wasn’t scanned. This is where UPS dominates..they investigate more thoroughly and come down hard on drivers that leave packages without scanning them. I don’t imagine UPS has such a ridiculous hold time to speak to someone on the phone.

Why assume that you may likely have a dishonest buyer ?

I shouldn’t assume but I have read that many people have had issues with selling cell phones. I listed my cell phone once before. The auction ended, high bidder never paid, the second chance offer bidder agreed to pay, and also never paid. I listed it again, and several buyers from India bid on it. I cancelled the auction after reading about how many Indian buyers claim INR’s. So I relisted it again without international shipping, and now it’s been out for delivery 2 business days. I don’t have a lot of confidence right now.

That's a terrible idea. The buyer's response cannot benefit the seller, and it could tempt even an honest buyer to file a fake "Item not received" claim.

I sure wouldn't do that. Why tip them off.

We are not assuming that the buyer is a crook. But the seller should not ignore the possibility that he might be one.

Wait and see what happens. Tracking might show delivery later.
Don't contact the buyer at all though, even if tracking doesn't show as delivered by the end of the week, or even at the end of the month / year..
If the buyer doesn't receive the item, the buyer will contact you.
