Is it normal for eBay to ask for DL, bank statements, receipts after being restricted? Are they going to flip out if I redact the prices on the receipts or redact the DL info.? I don't feel comfortable providing the first two pieces of information considering eBay's recent history.

Recent history? A two year old unfounded rumor that "eBay was hacked"?????
I don't know what eBay would do, but if I requested information and was sent redacted anything, that would be the end of story.

It happens. Also, check this out: https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2013/12/drivers-license-identity-theft/index.htm

I'm 100% not alone in my hesitance. Check this out:

I was taught from school and family and common sense this basic notion regarding such things:
"Don’t allow anyone but government officials to scan/swipe your license unless they are required to by law (buying medicine, checking ID at a bar, employment, rental property, etc.)"
I understand that it's common practice, but I'm really just trying to be safe here. I can't understand why someone would be against my caution.

Maybe I'm missing the point?
But it seems pretty simple to me....
Something has caused concern to eBay.
They've requested specific information on you.
You either provide it and perhaps again sell here,
or you don't... and stay restricted...
Respectfully,
Lynn

Good example. I note that the article begins with "Maybe I'm crazy or paranoid" and ends with him not getting what he wanted because he didn't provide the requested information.

Did they call you or email you using ebay? If they didnt use official ebay email to your ebay I would definitely raise questions. If you cant sell on ebay anymore why would they care anyway?

A clarification is needed here: The buyer got a free generator and full refund of $979.99 on small cosmetic damage I offered to replace. It was a clear abuse of SNAD policy, which dilutes the value of the feedback in my opinion.

You're missing the point...

I'm not missing the point. I'm calm, cool, and collected. I'm just adding additional information to your statement about why I'm receiving negative feedback.

prices you paid for your good is your business,I doubt if it makes any difference with Ebay ,unless it is stolen goods?
as for DL,redact would make Ebay wonder what you are trying to hide?

eBay doesn’t really want to see the price paid, they want to see that the source of the goods is legitimate. and they have good reason for that.

"eBay regularly does this to sellers who suddenly go from selling a few odds and ends to expensive stuff, especially when the seller is getting negative feedback on said items "
Since, you do not regularly sell high-priced items, eBay wants to make sure that the high-value items you are selling have not been stolen. Hence, the request for receipts.
eBay also wants to make sure that you are the actual person who is listing on this account..DL, identity verification etc.
If you do not provide the requested information, chances are slim to none that the restriction will ever be lifted.
