I'm still confused by how local pickup works if I'm the seller. We meet up and the buyer has to pay via Paypal? What if he later starts a case with paypal or later with his credit card claiming he never got the item? What proof do I have to let Paypal know for sure he did get the item? That's the part I don't understand. I don't want to worry buyer will later file a claim against me.
What if the buyer does some searching and finds out you have the item for sale locally and at a lower price and before buying on Ebay, he asks via the local site if he can buy from you locally (not Ebay) at the lower price YET still wants to pay via Paypal. He refuses to pay cash.
I tell him if we meet locally (not the ebay transaction), that I accept cash only . He still wants to use Paypal. I sell locally quite a bit but only accept cash. Why wouldn't a buyer still want to use Paypal? I've never had a buyer locally ask to pay any other way but cash. He seemed peeved that I would not do that.
Thanks.

Ive sold many things with pick up only, always ask for cash..Ive never had a buyer pay thru PP, but since you have to fly the PP flag even on local pick ups, the buyer can pay that way. they cannot file for item not received tho, unless the seller refuses to set up a date for their pick up. they can, however, if they use a cc, file with their cc for item not received for local pick up..tho its never happened to me.

"What if he later starts a case with paypal or later with his credit card claiming he never got the item?"
There is no buyer protection for "anything that is bought in person".

Are you sure because I remember a blue saying if a seller pays with paypal and there is a problem he can file snad and you have to reimburse.
I also remember doing a search of old threads saying the same.

There are rare circumstances where eBay may CONSIDER a snad claim on a local pick-up item. The example used by a blue was for an appliance which could not be tested at time of pick-up.
The OP specifically asked about Not Recieved claims, those were NOT included in the comment by the blue and are not covered by any buyer protection. While that might not prevent a buyer from opening such a claim it doesn't take much effort to have the claim closed in the sellers favor.

Both sam and jimmy are correct ~ @emerald40 you can refresh your memory on all things local pickup only by reading this post from Trinton...it may be a good idea to bookmark it as it covers almost every aspect of the subject:

I had someone ask prior if I could meet them today. They were adament to pay with Paypal. I didn't like that idea and have always gotten cash when meeting in person. They then walked away from the sale. I was ok with that.
So Paypal would never reward a buyer for saying they never received the item? I'd be protected because he couldn't get his money back should he like that he didn't get. What about if he paid via Paypal and filed a claim with his credit card? I wonder if he could win a claim by doing that?

"What if he filed a case with his credit card? I wonder if he'd win?"
As I said before, there is no buyer protection for items that are purchased in person.

Don't guess. Don't take it from a 3rd party. Don't go by what an eBay rep says. Read the FACTS on the Paypal Seller Protection page:
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/security/seller-protection
What isn’t covered by Seller Protection?

On my personal ID I have sold many large items as pickup only, like furniture. I specify:
All of that is exactly eBay-legal.
I sell pickup stuff on eBay vs Craigs since it's not anonymous.

"We cannot accept Paypal for in-person pickup."
You aren't allowed to say that.

If paypal has to be option to pay, then a buyer can do that.
The guy that wanted to pay with Paypal for my item was adament about paying via Paypal. After I leaned that there was no way he wanted to pay cash, I deleted the item before he could buy it and go against my wishes and use Paypal. There was no reason why he couldn't pay with cash. That is what I accept all the times and have had no issues. I like cash because once the item is gone, it's gone. I don't have to worry or wait to be scammed. It takes the stress out of selling.
