In 2021 eBay will no longer allow the sale or purchase of Coins, Motor Vehicles, or Bullion

Managed Payments is to be fully implemented by 2021 requiring ALL Sellers to be enrolled. Among several Items that will NOT be allowed in te Managed Payment System, are, Coins & Paper Money, Motor Vehicles, and Bullion. Obviously, if sellers can't sell them, then there won'tbe any listed to purchase.... Dahh!

Re: In 2021 eBay will no longer allow the sale or purchase of Coins, Motor Vehicles, or Bullion

The eBay rep posted a link to a town hall all the way back in Feb 2020. It is available to view from the link he posted. He clearly states in no uncertain terms that they WILL NOT be doing away with any categories. More fake news has sellers running for cover, without doing their own homework before redesigning their entire business...Managed payments is how all modern platforms operate. On Poshmark, it has been like this from the start. Much better to get your money free and clear, rather than pay once a month. If anything, eBay is now more transparent because I can see and understand each charge as it comes, instead of looking at a big ball pie chart.

Just got off the phone with "customer service" after I transitioned and one listing for a coin set was cancelled.  He tried to tell me it was a new issue since July.  Clearly he was wrong.  Can't relist, can't go back to paypal, they don't care.  It sure seems like they're trying to cut off those categories.

You are in MP.  It is a restricted category for a seller in MP.  So just simply open a new selling account and sell any coins or anything else you have that is from the list of restricted categories under that selling ID.

Hi everyone!

eBay is NOT removing sellers OR these categories. Sellers can still list and sell in categories such as Coins, Paper and Bullion!

To be clear, since eBay is now a payment processor like PayPal, they are moving all ELIGIBLE sellers into Managed Payments. Sellers who's sales are more than 50% in these Managed Payments restricted categories will continue to use PayPal as their processor until they can add more categories to Managed Payments.

If you are in Managed Payments and still want to sell in these categories, you can. Simply create a new eBay account for those items!

I hope this information helps to clarify any confusion and misinformation!

Re: In 2021 eBay will no longer allow the sale or purchase of Coins, Motor Vehicles, or Bullion

I would like to know why eBay is blocking these categories after you enter MP.

Someone commented in another post that you should just create a new account with eBay & PayPal until eBay gets around to forcing everyone to MP.  Can't disagree with comment, but I have better things to do than manage multiple I.D.'s  / accounts.

What I find funny is how eBay is promoting the authenticity of sneakers and watches. My opinion only is those two categories can't even touch what eBay has blocked "for now" in MP.

I'm still working through my family estate and I have currency to list, but can't now. No way will I go to a local dealer to get stabbed in the back for a lowball price.

It certainly isn't a perfect solution, but it is one that will work for the time being.  MP has said they are trying to resolve the issues they have with these categories and hope to have that fixed in 2021.

My guess is some of it has to do with Anti Money Laundering laws, especially where coins and the such come in.  PP even recently made a change to their rules for coins / Money.  Some of the other categories have me puzzled.

Well they had to start somewhere on the authenticity program.  I would imagine if they had picked a couple different categories others would be questioning their choice.

Hello... which platform did you find that allows you to sell coins.  Thank you

You can sell them on Ebay, you just can't be in MP and do it.

When you go into MP, just set up another selling account and ONLY sell things under that ID that are in the categories that MP currently doesn't support.  Then they won't require that account to move into MP until they get the issues resolved that currently prevents MP from supporting these sales.  Ebay has said they hope to have these issues resolved in 2021.

Re: In 2021 eBay will no longer allow the sale or purchase of Coins, Motor Vehicles, or Bullion

I think eBay started with those categories because it is where eBay themselves have lost the most money in charge backs and returns where they do not keep their final value fee, and have disgruntled buyers and sellers who eventually leave the site. The gold and silver scrap business at least is pretty straight forward, with serious buyers who are trying to make money as well. The problem with bullion is that it can be manipulated using charge cards and playing the market trends.

I would differ in that opinion.  That has nothing to do with it, especially with coins and paper money.  It is far more likely to have to do with Anti Money Laundering laws.  Even PP had to change their rules on coins and paper money recently.

Besides it is likely to be Electronics that is the absolute worst for scams, returns and refunds.

If eBay does away with coins and paper money then there will be no need for me to continue paying for a store subscription at $21.95 per month.

I believe this is a step in the direction of a cashless society. Just my opinion and everyone has one.

Part of the problem with money/gold/silver is that they have to set up rules for the entire world......and many different laws in different countries concerning selling of gold/legal tender, etc......

Where is a good place to find silver or sell the silver I have bought off of Ebay ? They bring in so much money selling money -  It would be beyond even Ebay to make such a foolish move

@apexcollectingcom

Ebay is NOT doing away with these categories.  It is some people that misunderstand the problem that are passing around that BAD information.

Currently MP can't support certain categories.  So Ebay is not moving sellers that primarily sell in these categories into MP.  They hope to have the issues worked out sometime next year so all sellers can be in MP.

i was told i had to switch, and that everyone, in 2021 will have to do this managed pay out thing, now i get paid a week later, though they want their fees immediately, at least with pay pal, they were cheaper and quick, instant money in your account, and now i cannot list my 250k worth of pcgs and raw coins at all, this is absurd, i spend about 3k a month buying coins as well, **bleep** ebay?? really???
