I think a buyer is scamming me

I sold a pin to a buyer and they are now claiming the pin is counterfeit.  The picture they sent back to me was of a different pin - I have the original pictures of the pin I sold.  I'm afraid I'm going to be out both the pin and the money and also get bad feedback.  I've already reported the buyer.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If she opened a case, provide a return label, and refund after return. If she doesnt send back your pin, you can appeal after the case is closed.

Don't dig yourself a hole to try to get out of. Proceed with return label promptly. Deal with it upon return. Ebay has no way of knowing what you sent them or what they return.

Re: I think a buyer is scamming me

Unfortunately, you really have no choice but to accept the return. If the returned item is not the item you sold, you can open a dispute with eBay and hope for the best. These are some of the the bad stuff we sellers have to deal with when selling online…it is the nature of the business since eBay began. If the scammer leaves bad feedback, you can request that eBay remove it. I have done this successfully in the past. Good luck!

Thanks - how do I know if they opened a case?

Thank you.  If they did not initiate a return yet, do I wait for that or just send a shipping label through messages?

Re: I think a buyer is scamming me

Sometimes these issues are mistaken identity.  I would reply with "I'm sorry but that is not the pin I sold you.  Perhaps you have mistaken the pin I have sent you with another purchase".

I'm always amazed by how fast some of these folks vanish with even a flatly stated "that's not the item I sent you".

Re: I think a buyer is scamming me

I had such a problem. Buyer sent photos of stamps they bought claiming they are damaged. I sent the photos of my item sold to her with her photos she sent to me. Never heard from the buyer again.

Buyer did not open a claim...of course I blocked them.

I only needed to send my photos of my ad next to her photos she emailed me...and was very curt..."photos look different".
