Did you mean:

I'm such a complainer.

Item arrived VERY poorly packaged but undamaged.

I really want to leave this seller a neutral but i know most of you will say ... what's the problem, you got your item undamaged so stop complaining.

So i purchased 4 baseball caps.  They were shipped in a poly mailer.  Not a padded poly mailer, but just a poly mailer. No protection at all but a thin layer of plastic a fraction of a millimeter thick.

I see what happens to packages in transport. They are thrown and stepped on. Often times other large, heavy boxes (like computers) are thrown on top.

I would never ship anything like that.

What should i do?  Complain to the seller? Leave a neutral? Nothing at all because  i received my item in good condition?

Interesting!  You state that the items were poorly packaged but arrived undamaged.  If they arrived undamaged it stands to reason that they were adequately packaged to survive the trip.

I'd probably still leave them positive feedback   but like a previous poster suggested you could note the sub standard packaging in the comment section . At least the items were undamaged  unlike what happened to a blouse I ordered  one time .The seller squeezed into the smallest poly mailer I have ever seen in my life  with zero buffer zone . I ended up cutting the blouse by mistake just trying to open it. 😞   Tulips

To me this seems harsh.  You are a seller.  Why in the world would you want to do that to another seller's FB.  You got the items you ordered, they weren't damaged, for what purpose would you do this?  To warn other buyers?

From my point of view it would be far better to contact the seller in a nice and polite format and let them know what happened.

You come to the threads all the time looking for help and advice.  Why in the world would your first inclination be to hit the sellers FB and not reach out to them in the hope to help them.

Over the years I've had similar things happen.  It never even occurred to me to hit the seller's FB.  But I did email them in a nice professional email with my observations, concerns and solutions as I see them.  Each time the seller was grateful for the help.

But of course this is your decision to make.

I have received a small memory card for a camera once in a regular envelope wrapped in bubble wrap. The envelope was open on 1 side and looks like it  was stuck in a sorter for awhile.. I was able to just pull the card right out the side with out even opening the envelope..... I contacted the seller to let him know it could have fallen out at any time.. and that he might want to next time ship it first class package as I paid for... Lets just say he was not very happy with me, I was just letting him know  it was shipped wrong and could have been lost. But I was called a Problem Buyer. I did not leave him feedback. What else can you do!!!!

Re: I'm such a complainer.

I'd leave positive feedback or no feedback.  Like you said, you received the item safely.

Also, baseball hats seem pretty indestructible?  If they were light bulbs then yeah, I'd be thinking "why would you ship it like that???".   A plain poly mailer versus a bubble mailer wouldn't make any difference if the package got stepped on.

But, as it is, it didn't get stepped on, and most packages out there don't get stepped on, so . . .

Re: I'm such a complainer.

Shipping one hat in a  lightweight box can be done with First Class Mail.  But not four hats. The weight will push it over 1 pound and now that shipping charge just doubled.  Since your hats arrived as described it doesn't seem that the seller merits a neutral over something that didn't happen.  I only want my purchases to arrive safely.  I buy large bubble wrap on eBay and they covered with saran wrap or black garbage bags.  I realize that if buyers demand that it be shipped in boxes that the cost will go up.  So as long as it gets to me in good shape I don't seethe point of complaining.

At least you are honest enough to admit you are a complainer.  We just received light bulbs in a bubble mailer.  I was happy they weren't smashed, but it never entered my mind to give them bad feedback for making me wonder a few seconds before finding out.

You too?  We purchased some bulbs from the River and sure enough they came in a bubble mailer.  I would NEVER do such a thing.

Re: I'm such a complainer.

I wanted to expand on my bubble mailer comments a little bit.  If your concern about the hats was with them getting crushed and losing their shape, then IMO a bubble mailer would actually be a worse choice than the poly bag style of mailer.  Bubble envelopes have a much firmer "shape" than poly mailers, which are just really really sturdy bags.  Doesn't seem ideal for a hat unless you didn't mind the crown being folded over / squashed down, but it sounds like you do mind.

If your worry is heavy items being put on top of the mailer then there is absolutely no difference between a bubble mailer vs a poly bag .  A thin layer of bubble wrap is not going to absorb the weight of a computer monitor or a human stepping on the package!

So if you really wanted an "unsquashable" package, you want it shipped in a box.  And if that's the case, the best thing to do would be to contact the seller ahead of time and say: "how do you ship your items?  Can you ship it in a box?"  To which the seller would say one of the following:  "Yes, I always ship items in a box" or "No, I don't ship items in boxes" (and then you could simply find a different seller) or "Sure, I'd be glad to ship it in a box, let me just adjust the shipping weight to reflect the weight of the box."  Cardboard is surprisingly heavy, even with items that don't need additional padding to keep the item from rattling around.

If I'm buying something fragile I ALWAYS confirm the box ahead of time because, yeah, there are people like light-bulbs-in-envelope out there.

That's even worse than my hats. Light bulbs in a bubble mailer?  It would cost a few cents more to ship in a box.

The last thing i shipped in a bubble mailer was a cloth sunglass pouch.

My opinion....it`s the sellers risk to take.

All very good points . I shipped a  womans vest and two necklaces out yesterday morning  to a buyer here in Ca . I didn't have a big enough shipping envelope  for the vest because I normally only ship small jewelry items  so I used a 9 by 6 by 4 inch cardboard box  that I just happen to have . Everything fit perfectly with room to spare  . The shipping was under 4 dollars . However it would have been more if it had to travel farther . Tulips

Re: I'm such a complainer.

I wouldnt leave a bad feedback...just send the seller and tell him that poor packaging could lead to problems in the future

I would think that that would be on you rather than the seller.  Care should always be exercised when opening a package.  Sorry, but that's my opinion.

Re: I'm such a complainer.

Send them an email for your own peace of mind that you weren't happy with how the item was packaged.  Don't leave ANY feedback and don't buy from that person again.  Some things just aren't worth worrying over for very long.   Then... Take some deep, cleansing breaths and let it go entirely.

I feel the need to point out that I bought a baseball cap from Victoria's Secret a few weeks ago. It arrived in a poly mailer with NO padding whatsoever. The hat arrived in fine condition. It's not just ebay sellers who do things like this so try not to judge them too harshly.
