I’m done with eBay. A rant

eBay is the worst, I will never sell on it again.

So recently I’ve acquired some things to sell for a friend. I’ve been a member since 2009 with 100% feedback. One of the items I sold the buyer claimed the item was damaged in shipping. I knew I was going to have problems with this buyer from the get go as the shipping address was a warehouse and seemed kind of shady. I told him to send me photos of it damaged. The photos didn’t prove anything. Of course ebay sided with him because that’s the way it works. He asked me to give him a partial refund which I wouldn’t. He was obviously trying to scam me. I provided a return label and he never shipped it back. Case closed. It’s comical how long ebay gives buyers to send things back.

Second, I recently sold a Briggs and Riley bag to a lady. She received it and claimed it was counterfeit. She gave me my first negative feedback ever, without even contacting me. I told her the bag was not counterfeit and provided her the original receipt of purchase directly from Briggs and Riley. She still didn’t believe me. eBay completely sided with her and now I’m stuck with the negative feedback and paying for return shipping.

What a joke. eBay is just a free for all where any buyer can claim anything and they always will be in the right. It’s a cesspool of scammers, and dishonesty. On top of that the eBay fees are ridiculous. I’m just done with it. Never again. That’s my rant.

That’s good to know, but I think eBay already sided with the buyer saying it was a counterfeit item. So I don’t know if that applies to me now

I did. I don't know why. Any topic that ends in "a rant" really should just be ignored.

That would make sense if I accepted returns. Which I don’t. I don’t even know why ebay has that has an option, because even if you are in the right they make you offer a return.

The No Returns option means only that no returns are accepted because the buyer changed his mind.  It does not apply to any other reason for a return.   It does not mean no refunds for other issues.  eBay's Money Back Guarantee protects buyers when items are not received, or are not as described when received.

eBay cannot know what you shipped, if you shipped anything, or what your buyer received, if your buyer received anything.  Therefore, it does the only thing that makes sense if eBay is to continue to thrive as a marketplace:  It takes the buyer's word.   Once upon a time, it did not, and lying, thieving, scamming sellers nearly destroyed it as a marketplace.  If you have a gripe, it is with those sellers back in eBay's "wild west days."

Re: I’m done with eBay. A rant

I get more scammers on Amazon and Etsy than I do here.

Etsy counts negative feedback against your ability to sell.    I get more,  the color is wrong in your picture,  this isn't really silk,      I don't believe it came from Japan....  But a little discount would prevent me from a negative review.

Amazon ,  I get claims item wasn't delivered even through tracking shows it is.    I still have to refund because I did not get signature confirmation.    I get a lot of empty return envelopes or fabric with a yard mysteriously missing.

It isn't just Ebay.

Why would anyone "counterfeit" a $75 bag?

Simply stated:  No returns does not equal exempt from the eBay 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.  It's the rule we sellers all must live by.  And yes, it is weighted towards the buyer.

Re: I’m done with eBay. A rant

Well, sorry for your troubles. It looks like you have been successful over the course of your selling here.

One of the items I sold the buyer claimed the item was damaged in shipping...”

I am curious. (This may sound snarky but is not meant to be.) What is your take on transit damage? Are you saying things rarely get damaged in shipping? Or that if they do, it is not your problem as a seller? Even the most careful of shippers sometimes gets damaged goods.

eBay does not require buyers to provide photos to prove their veracity but it at least sounds like your buyer was being cooperative.

No it doesn't apply to you now I just thought I'd give you that advice for the future. The common saying around here is no returns doesn't mean no refunds. Also scammers are a lot more attracted to people who have no returns.

If you would accept returns and you are atop rated seller than negative feedback for any return case would automatically get deleted:

I did accept the return, and I did provide a return label. He did not send it back in the allotted time and I won the case. My point is he was trying to obviously scam me, and eBay was basically still siding with him.

How did Ebay side with him when you won the case? It sounds like Ebay sided with YOU.
