I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

This is a first for me. While checking on a tracking number I see that it has been refused. I know that I need to wait till the package is returned at which time I will refund. I plan on refunding the $98.00 only and no shipping as I will still be $12.00 out of pocket due to Ebay fees.

I worry about a neg., having never received one after over 2,000 transaction on my selling account. There I did it. I jinx myself by saying it out loud, or is it by putting it out there for all to see. Should I treat it like ripping off a bandage to get the pain over with?

I have had no contact from the buyer other than the below email but then the package arrived and was refused just yesterday. The back story is that I had two china listing of the same items and the buyer brought both for a total of $98.00 plus shipping. Buyer sends an email thanking me for making these items available, asking that I pack well as he was buying them for his wife.

I replied that I like to think that I do an above average job when packaging out glass. I told him that I packed the items out in a 16X12X8 box as I did not want to stack the items 8 high and that I had upgraded shipping to priority mail. Gave tracking number and thanked him for his purchase.

It's always possible someone else at the address refused the parcel.
Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Re: I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

I'd wait to see what the next tracking entry shows. It's possible that the carrier chose the wrong option when attempting to do a Delivered scan. If you see further entries soon, that'll indicate that it really is on its way back to you.

I would do nothing further unless or until you actually receive it back again. If the buyer has some grievance, you'll hear from him. Don't go looking for trouble by contacting him first.

If it genuinely was Refused, perhaps they heard the sound of broken pieces rattling around inside, in which case Refusing it was the quickest option for them.

If you cancel the transaction and give a full refund, citing "Buyer request," you'll get a credit for the final value fees.

Re: I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

do nothing until you need to...

if the package comes back to you... you can cancle transaction...and get fees back..if all is done correctly...

but depending on what or if the buyer sends a message...you get the item..check the address..verify it on ebay /paypal account fo the buyer...

if all your worried about is a feedback..then you'll hurt yourself... first you see what really happens before doing anything....and have it in hand.

why? what would a negative feedback do?..change your life?, change your sales?, mean anything to anyone but your EGO?  no one know how many transactions you have had...only the last 12 months--no one cares....NO ONE!

you do a super job at selling, packing shipping, customer service....that all you can do.....TO worry about a feedback is so silly that it is insane( and i say it nicely)...but first you get one...and you may even be able to call ebay CS and have it removed...depending.....

and in the situation...you wait....as i said before....and you do what needs to be done..WHEN you know what has happened, what can be done or not...You need to know...and/or the buyer cooperation.... they may have changed their minds and that's how they dealt with it.... no your fault(untill you know if it was)....and when it's time..yoi can always refund and cancel the transaction... as per procedure and proper Customer sevice...BUT to worry? HA....not worth it either way.... no one will point and whisper....its ebay...no one knows or care really..YOUR street CRED is still safe....peace out!

You are right I may very well be jumping to a conclusion. I need to wait and see.

Don't do anything until you have your items back and the buyer contacts you.

Now that you said it I guess I knew that but till you reminded me there was a good chance I would not have thought to do it so thank you.

Thank you for the time you put into this answer as I agree. It looks like I’m borrowing trouble. I will wait and see how this plays out.

Re: I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

Don't worry prematurely or unnecessarily, and hopefully all will work out well!

Someone may have refused it who had no idea it was coming!  Maybe even the gift recipient!

Hang in there!

Re: I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

I have had this happen to me on more than one occassion, even a couple of times when the item was coming to me.   Once was comical because it was an AZN delivery that was scheduled for a Sunday & was sitting home next to the mail box at the time the delivery was marked, "could not deliver, wrong address!"

I asked at the Carrier Station and have been told that often these are due to a substitute carrier being on the route that day.  I think these subs get overwhelmed and use the "refused" or something else when they miss a delivery and would have to go back later.

It is frustrating as heck and makes the seller look bad.  So hang in there, when the regular carrier returns to the route, it will likely be delivered.

Re: I have had a Package refused. How should I proceed?

The package could have been refused for POSTAGE DUE, if you did not caluclate the weight and dimensions correctly and the customer had to pay extra to receive the package this could be what happened. the only way to know for sure is when the package comes back. if it was POSTAGE DUE it will be marked on the package by the USPS. If this is NOT THE CASE, you should not worry and take the other helpful posters advice about marking as BUYER CANCELED and don't forget to ADD A NOTE in your sold listing section explaining the circumstances. Hope all ends well!
