I get up around 5:30 am every morning and check my ebay for anything I need to ship. It used to take me as much as 3 hours to pack everything for shipping (not anymore it takes 20 minutes, if there is anything at all). About 2 weeks ago there was an offer for a 70 amp circuit breaker (a low offer) but I said WTH I'll just let it go. That was about 7am when I accepted the offer, by 8am the guy paid and within 15 minutes I packed it and tossed it in the mailbox before leaving for work. I got home around noon and found a message from the guy wanting to cancel. I messaged back that it was too late to cancel but, when he received it he could just send it back and I would give him a full refund. I never heard back from him. The other day I looked at my feedback and low and behold he gave me a Neg because I shipped too fast and could not honor his cancellation. It seems to be getting harder and harder to please anyone, I've been tossing stuff in the trash and listing other stuff cheap, I've also stopped buying. When everything is gone I'll be done here and I've been selling since around 2000 under 2 different accounts.

You have discovered one reason why I offer three day shipping, not same day.
IMHO shipping within minutes of payment is not necessarily "doing the right thing".
As a buyer who doesn’t change my mind I would appreciate shipping within minutes and I think it being considered a bad thing a seller does this because a few wishy washy buyers change their mind is an absurd notion.
Even if I do think I need to cancel and the seller has already shipped. I’m not going to neg them and blame them. They seller even offered a full refund on return and still got negged. Why recommend we cater to the buyer like this instead of the good ones?
ebay caters to the spur of the moment shoppers, these days. I can't even remember all the times a buyer bought something and then minutes later asked me to cancel because he bought the wrong thing. THey buy and THEN ask questions or actually bother to read the descriptions. I'm no longer a fan of shipping items out instantly. Especially now that we can't charge a restocking fee. Too many ignorant non reading buyers these days.

I never said that shipping within 15 minutes was a "bad" thing for a seller to do. I simply said that it was no more "right" than waiting a bit and still shipping within your handling time. In fact, waiting for the paint to become tacky may be a prudent thing to do, given that this board is full of reports from sellers about buyers changing their minds.

That may be true. But this buyer did.

I never recommended "catering" to the buyer. I was simply suggesting that shipping the next day (or two days later, if you handling time allows that) is no less "right" than shipping in 15 minutes. And sometimes, a prudent pause can keep a minor issue from becoming a major headache.

It’s still absurd to suggest its not the right thing to do because a few buyers will want to cancel and even a smaller amount will actually neg because the seller shipped within minutes. The buyer giving a negative is what wasn’t the right thing to do.
The suggestion means that the many of us who wouldn’t want to cancel and wouldn’t neg if the seller had shipped fast making it where we couldn’t. The ones who would appreciate the seller shipping so quickly don’t get that amazing service because there are a handful of buyers out there who be unreasonable and neg. I just don’t cater to those type buyers and leave my good ones getting less because of it.

There are going to be buyers that complain about anything.......it's just something you have to learn to deal with..on line as well as brick and mortar.....

I think you vastly overestimate buyers' appreciation of that amazingness.

Why is it not the "right thing"?Let me rephrase that.
Shipping the item within your timeframe is "doing the right thing".
But shipping it super fast does not make it "super right" ... and as the OP discovered, it may not even be wise.
yes that is correct...right is within your timeframe...BUT you ship as you can and when you can...it's not "right" or "wrong" BUT as you learned...sometimes it can cause a hassle...but you also say sorry return for refund! it was past the 5 min rule and its in the mail...the buyer has to be a grown up too and accept that they wanted and bought it...and now it is in the mail...so they follow rules..... as for feedback...if that is what is bother you then let your EGO rest and move on.... if you refunded befoe getting it back..then THAT would be silly....and if you have his money still and he has what he GROWN UP ordered..then tough on him and a feedback that can't be helped means nothing to anyone...and dont say "my discount, my TR badge"...oh please.... if you do what you do..with honest intentions then so be it...it happens...but to dwell on feedback and how it looks to the ebay world...no one cares really...no one points and calls anyone names....the street"cred" is still good.....lol

On eBay, the buyer is not required to be a grown up.
So IMHO sellers may need to take prudent steps to guard against the many ways a buyer can act like a child in order to protect their TRS and their profitability.
For me this means:

Well I’m going based on feedback from buyers when I ship same day. Which includes if someone sold that morning and I mail it before I go to work just as op did.
And of course I’m going on my own opinion of when a seller ships quick and the fact I love it.

You're right. Many threads on the Buying Board start out with, So I bought, AND THEN...
Many do their due diligence, if any, AFTER they buy, instead of BEFORE when it might actually be of benefit to them. Then comes the cancel request.
Not shipping instantly can protect you against these buyers.

You have to take in the lag time ebay has for GOTCHA sucker emails. Buyers get a email from ebay within mins. after purchasing a item showing them items they never saw in search and are lower priced than their purchase.. Folks shipping same day will get bitten by that ebay bug..
09-03-2018 08:27 AM
OP, sorry this happened to you. Hopefully CS can remove that neg for you, because it is not your fault at all.
Sadly, many these days just don't take responsibility for their issues. They blame others.
09-03-2018 08:32 AM
Wow, some people can be mean even when you do the right thing. I have a one day handling time. You can get that negative removed if you call ebay.

Been there, done that.

I didn't tell the OP to "stop doing" anything. I simply gave the OP reasons why I do not choose to do what the OP does.
But that aside ...
No, I am not kidding you. IMHO shipping the next morning is not "less excellent" than shipping within 15 minutes. And occasionally it can save time, money and aggravation.
Scenario one - the buyer wants to cancel or changes his mind, as with the OP. Most people reading this board know that eBay shows the buyer similar items after a sale, and if a buyer sees the same item for less money he may want to cancel.
Scenario two - the buyer follows up with a message wanting change the shipping address because he moved. Or wanting to add an apartment number because he forgot it.
Scenario three - the buyer purchases additional items, and wants them shipped together with combined shipping.
All of the above scenarios have happened to me. But I have never once had a buyer complain because I shipped the next morning and not within 15 minutes.
