I suspect someone's daughter got Mom's credit card. Or she is simply insane. It happens.
Plus, of course, the really good scammers are pleasant to deal with, not hostile. It doesn't help them to make you suspicious, after all...

This scam works because the buyer knows the sale is too big for you to pass up. Whenever anyone asks me ship to a different address, I tell them and show them how to change the address on PayPal. Only ship to the address on the PayPal form. I am stunned that you allowed the buyer to request so many shipping changes. Again, it works because you have an eye on the big sale you made and not the obvious scan in the making.

Sounds to me as if you did what you could. If paypal is investigating it, I wouldn't worry too much. I know that's easy for me to say. Paypal doesnt take this sort of thing lightly. I think you'll get it back, and everything will be okay.
Or paypal will rule in your favor. Please let us know.
It would be nice if that were true, but it's simply not the case.
As a seller, (or a buyer even for that matter) you have to absolutely be proactive when something is wrong and keep pestering Paypal (or ebay, whatever the case may be) and constantly get and give updates on a case.
I have a horrible feeling about this one but I hope it somehow does work out of the OP, though I feel the chances are low sadly.

I would get on a airplane and go get the **bleep** thing.
