I QUIT!!! Ebay charges too much and they are double dipping due to the fact they own PayPal. PayPal even charges for refunds lol. At the end of the month you get a huge bill and you see little profit. I won’t miss Ebay at all!!

I've been saying this for the past 10 years or more. The thing is, the under appreciatedness is what bothers me. The cattle treatment. NO RESPECT!!!!
The changes made/updates to the system, who thinks of these "improvements!?" I told them a MILLION TIMES, GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS! WHEN IT WAS MORE OF A COMMUNITY. Well, here I am saying this but THIS IS WHERE THE COMMUNITY IS!
I have helped ebay , and myself by doing so, SOOOO many times. Now I make a suggestion and they say for legal reasons, they can't know who I am or even want to know! They have a disclosure thing that says ideas may be thought of intellectuals so they are bound by law not to listen!
Back in the early days, they would call me and we would spend hours on the phone. I never got a dime but the system improved! Ideas are worth MILLIONS if a good one.
Let's see, I helped create the double tier in the automotive search category. Yeah, you used to just be able to search local, or ending soonest, or by year.... I said, HEY, I want to see the NEAREST and CHEAPEST! MAKE A DOUBLE TIER SEARCH!!! It took awhile but they eventually figured it out. How much was that worth?
I suggested one day..... why am I calling you waiting on the phone for 30 minutes. Why don't you just have something where you click that you want ebay to call ME when they are ready to talk!???
Ok, and how about the time I said, "Hey, why in the world are you showing the world the best offers that i accept, I will never be able to sell another of the same for more money because people will just look at my feedback and know how much the last person paid? (I only sold cheap a few times to get some cash flow going,.... or pay ebay fees!!!! ON a good day, I could sell the same item for DOUBLE! (Ebay will get double too!) HIDE THE SALE PRICE ON A BEST OFFER! THEY CHANGED THIS THE NEXT DAY!!!!!!!!!
I was never paid for my ideas, I gave them freely to improve the system! My ideas helped ME so didn't mind.
I could go on and on and on!
NO RESPECT!
I have so many more to share, I think I"m going to post an idea in a new thread to see what folks say or if it's already fixed so I can boost my sales BIG TIME! YOURS TOO!!!!!
Keep your account in good standing and try out a few other ways to make money. It's a free country. I'm thinking hard about building my own sales website. It's cheap! SEO is EASY. I have a website on GODADDY, just a fan type site with info and they say my site is better than 97% of the competition. It can be done and that site only cost me $70 a YEAR with DOMAIN NAME RENEWAL! I think for $150 you can get a FULL BLOWN MERCHANT SITE! $150 a year! I paid ebay $550 this past December alone!
We are not bound to sell exclusively here. Uh Oh! I hope they didn't hear that! Next thing you know, they'll be having us make a contract!!!!!!!!!! lol, I'm not kidding.
It's a LOVE HATE relationship.
I feel ya!

Ebay used to be the PREMIER site, it probably still is, but... BUT....they messed it up by allowing IMO, 3rd party affiliation. When other sites starting advertising all over the pages, making competition for ebay sellers!!!!
I saw recently an ad to attract buyers to ebay. Basically, it was telling people to buy on ebay that sellers want to get rid of un-needed merchandise, and is the place to get a great deal. So you see, they are selling ebay as a cheap website. Why say this? This does NOT help. I do not sell JUNK. I might have to start though because it seems like the good stuff is being sold by other auction houses, or websites that SPECIALIZE in the higher end merchandise and they have sometimes $0.00 to 20% fees. 20% sounds like a lot but on a high ticket item, in a specialized market, you might fare better than here. Remember when it was like 2%, similar to a credit card fee!?
I remember the days when you would have a great item and spend $100 to list it featured! ( I think there was a class action lawsuit and one day I got a check back for like $400) I actually liked that. But the selling fees were much less when you paid $20-100 to list 1 item. I didn't mind paying more for each item listed. I can remember when we all had a $25 revolving window of seller fees. I would sell $1000 worth of stuff and pay the $25 in a week and keep doing it over and over.
Ebay need to stop worrying about AMAZON and worry about itself. I don't like AMAZON. I think it's $40 a month minimum and I don't think there are any selling fees!!!! but I just don't like the format. I'm only paying $5 a month for a store and get the 100 listings. Sales are NOT what they used to be. If I needed money, I would just list and sell, list and sell, for good prices. Now I have to give stuff away because again, IT"S A JUNKYARD. At least that they attitude new buyers have, due to EBAY MARKETING itself. They need to get back on top! BRING THE OLD THINKING BACK! They scared away lots of quality goods. Now these people go back to the auction websites like HERITAGE. Remember back in the day, Heritage, Sotheby's, all the big boys, LISTED AUCTIONS ON EBAY!!!! THAT GAVE EBAY PRESTIGE! It wasn't a junk yard then. We were all on level ground. NOW IT"S NICKEL AN DIME YOU TO DEATH! They can't figure it out so the fees keep going up. FREE LISTINGS!? They are not free folks. They are AT YOUR EXPENSE. I WILL NEVER EVER UPGRADE MY STORE. But they say I should to increase exposure. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?

Not very buyer friendly though. But I have to admit that my problem ultimately stems from jeans designers. I grew up riding horses up to 8 hours a day. Even at 60 years old I have pretty muscled legs. Todays skinny jeans literally don't fit. Even if I go big enough to be too large for my waist and hips they strangle my knees and calves.
Literally I think both Mercari and Poshmark have a ban on old school straight legged jeans.
Also as a mail carrier I think their charging sellers postage for 5# across the board is robbery. I can't tell you how many Poshmark packages I have delivered with 5# labels that were only a couple ounces.

@pinksakura2000 wrote:I more or less agree with you, since all buyers wants to buy at the cheapest price, and having these fees is making selling tougher. While I think that we should all pay the fees when an item sells, I find it extremely unreasonable that sellers gets charged on refunds by Paypal.
I think it's smart to cut potential losses early. Especially when some sellers loose not only the fees, but also the merchandise and shipping because eBay is capable to automatically refund buyers when items not arriving according to its estimated delivery time by charging your credit card/bank account.
I sell on and off when I have time. The biggest problem with selling is people want the company to look out for them. Reality is no matter which selling venue the venue makes money when things sell. Your profit is NOT their concern, it has to be yours.
When I list there always seams to be a company suggested low price. Ignore it!!! When I figure a starting price or BIN I factor in ALL my expenses including all FVF's. I then add a minimum profit of 30% of trending price at auction and 60% for BIN. So I am paying myself before the listing even goes active.
Gone is the day when anything you toss onto eBay will have a bidding war. More than likely your listing will just get one bid.
Of course if your calculations put the item over the trending price it won't sell. For these I often include such items within lots to maximize searches.
Doing this usually puts me around 80% sell through on the first time around listing. Anything that doesn't sell the second time around goes to my B&M or into a lot.
Sure I could put up hundreds of listings starting at some ridiculously low starting price and make the same money on shear volume but who has the time when I can make the same with quality listings of a dozen or so.

Well since you are quitting, dont forget to close your fifty six auctions. I dont get the 'double dipping' rant, Paypal and Ebay are two separate companies, that offer two separate services..you think PP should be free?

You don't have to quit. Ebay will shut you down if you don't remove your facemask listing. More than $10 each is price gouging.

Thank you 🤗 Thats very kind of you to say

Many posts about this. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/FACE-MASKS/m-p/30874919#M1583284 Hand made masks have been banned for a while here. Is your next thread going to be titled, "Ebay suspended me for listing face masks, what do I do now"?
04-23-2020 06:41 AM
You cannot sell those home made face mask here. Especially for the price you're asking.

Ebay charges too much
The answer to whether eBay is "too expensive" varies by seller. I sell music memorabilia and I get zero sales on the three other sites I have used. Because I like money better than I like statistics, I would rather pay around 16% to make a lot of money on eBay than to pay around 7% to make very little on other sites.
they are double dipping due to the fact they own PayPal
You are about 5 years out of date with this one. In fact, eBay is actively deploying its own Managed Payments system that competes directly with PayPal, and that every seller will eventually be required to use. That seems to be at odds with your theory about them being the same company.
And of course Omidyar owns shares in both - so do many others. Anyone who owned eBay at the time of the split was given shares in PayPal - including most of my 401K plans.
PayPal even charges for refunds lol
PayPal is a payment processor. When they refund a transaction, they are doing twice as much work as they do for a normal transaction. When someone at work changes their mind and wants me to undo something I did, they pay me a second time to undo it.
At the end of the month you get a huge bill and you see little profit
There are millions of sellers here with millions of stories. While you may be getting a huge bill and very little profit, over the past 5 years I have consistently put 78% of my selling price in my bank account after all expenses (including the cost of the inventory itself).
I won’t miss Ebay at all!!
Again, every seller is different. eBay pays for my property taxes, most of my entertainment expenses, and a week or two in Europe each year. I would miss that dearly!
eBay is not a good fit for everyone. IMHO success here requires three things: knowledge (knowing what will sell), math (determining whether it makes sense to acquire), and opportunity (being able to find inventory). In my experiencethe hardest part - by far - is locating items to sell.

I'm not about to negotiate with you about what I'm selling my work for!

Ebay fees are very high! Then you have to promote to have listings seen. Then there is the constant promotion of theft from sellers. There is a lot about Ebay. It is a scammers paradise all promoted by Ebay at the expense of the seller.

The OP paid for those 56 listings. The OP can close them when the OP is ready to close them.
