How to get Sales

I think I found the solution to more sales. I had like no sales for 5 days....I mean like nada.

This was like going to be my most crappy week.

I listed about 40 items today....none of which are selling yet...but the older items are selling.

The minute I started listing items I got back into getting sales. Its so wild and thankfully tomorrow on

Sunday I can get these orders out for Monday. It's only 6:48 PM and it's like crazy with the sales coming in. What the heck is going on? I love it but being on vacation Monday_Friday with nada sales and then crazy sales.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Its like crazy and wonderful!

I agree wih this 100%.  I listed quite a bit over the last few days but it was some my older listings that sold.

How to get Sales

Does anyone have any theories if listing items that were either relisted WITHOUT changes or only SLIGHT modifications counts the same as a BRAND NEW item never listed in your shop before? Can eBay tell based on pictures/titles/details/etc. if it is in fact a new item or a newly relisted/revised item? Does it matter if you let it cycle through the 30 days and the system relists automatically or do you get a boost if you end it manually and relist?

ebay has said that they can tell that a revised listing is just a revised listing, and not an entirely new listing. hey haven't provided any real specifics about that. But I think the current "best advice" is : you probably better your chances of making a sale by actually improving your listing as a revision than by making some tiny change and then trying to pass it off as a new listing..

But some sellers still swear by ending and then using sell similar to essentially relist the same listing. I don't generally do that, so I'm not sure how much it really helps. (At one time, it DID help, but today, I'm not so sure)

You could try testing the different methods....

I did that in the ~May timeframe. Had ~400 longtail items separated out into 4 different, 2nd store categories of ~100 items each. That made it easy-peasy to end them.

Every day, I would end 100 of the listings and the next day do a sell similar on all 100. Did this 4 or 5 time throughout the month with all 400 listings, 100 at a time.

Did this for about a month..... Only received a few sporadic sales here and there. It basically did nothing.

I did it with listings that had no Google placement to speak of.

This endeavor coincided with being thrown into EIS, which I had to shutdown EIS right away. All this purculated into having the worst 12 day stretch in my history as a fulltime seller stretching back 6 years.  Ebay sales pitched a 12 day shutout. Most I had ever had was 3-4, maybe 5 days of no sales and those do not happen very often.

I believe it was last year when ebay said they could identify relists as not actually new listings. So, you did this in May of this year, and it sounds like you didn't get much boost, which is pretty much what ebay was saying. That's why I would recommend actually making more serious revisions (especially lowering price if they are old and you want to move them---I think ebay does often send lowered priced items to watchers, etc , letting them know the price has been lowered.)

I think it might still be worth revising listings periodically, but not because you will get a "new" bump, but because a change to the title or category, for example, might bring it up in a search it would not have been brought up in before. It's like the old antique mall tactic....if you don't have new stuff to put in your booth, move the stuff from the bottom shelf to the middle, and the middle to the bottom, etc.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

I was actually doing sell similar rather than relist so it received the 24 hour, new listing status.

I have had plenty of new items to list lately so I have been working those. On days when I dont list new items, I search my existing listings by start date and end 2 or 3 of the old listings and then create brand new listings. Just drag and drop the photos and update item specifics and perhaps the title. I check for Google placement, if nothing happening in the top 10 or 12 placements, I end them and create a new listing.

Still have to do this later today. Went to see Oppenheimer and had lunch. Still have to squeeze in a little work to make the day complete.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

I just finished putting in about 2.5 hours.

Packed 2 sales for shipment tomorrow.

Listed 2 new items, one that is a slam dunk sale in the next 30 days or less. I was sold out. Made a brand new listing for it because it was attached to a PL before.

Ended 3 long tail items and created 3 NEW listings from the 3 listings I ended. (Not sell similar or relist)

With 90 minutes someone watched one of those listings and I got a chance to send an offer, which I did.

Had a inquiry on a expensive listing I made this past week. Have actually sold 2 of those in the past month. Have to work for that money because it takes new pics for each one and takes 1.5 hours to bubble wrap and pack a 40 lb. 29 × 22 x 9.  Packed and ready to ship same day if you buy before noon CDT. My customers need that quick ship. I give it to them where many of my competitors do not.

Firm believer that we make our own luck.

Best of luck to all.

Yeah, going the extra mile for the customer can certainly make a difference. That's definitely one way we can all make our own luck, as you say.

The only way new listings has helped me is if the new listings actually sell.  I do not get busier when adding new items.

Wow - So what you are saying is if you list more items you will make more sales - Thats helpful information.

I'm joking, but I do believe that this is part of a master plan - You see when you listed the new stuff and the old stuff started moving you see the correlation and the bell rings for Pavlov's dog - Well that makes you want to list more new stuff - you know, keep ringing that bell - I think the goal then is to get you comfortable in this rhythm - The problem arises when you get totally invested in the site because you are actually only selling a mediocre portion of the older stuff as you list new stuff and the unsold listings are piling up - Now you're in a position where you end up with enough listings that you need to fork out money for a store while you keep listing new stuff in the hopes your older stuff continues to move - That puts you in a precarious situation, because now you have so much time and commodity invested in your store that you need to keep listing more to keep selling that mediocre amount while your unsold items continue to increase - So I believe they figure once they get you into this position that now when they come up with a new plan to take even more fees than the ridiculous amount they're already taking, they know you'll just have to take it, because you are all in... just a theory...

How to get Sales

Dear

I'm in need of guidance. It's been five months since I launched my eBay store, yet I haven't made any sales. I'm at a loss for what steps to take next. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You have tons of listings so I assume you also have lots of followers. Adding more items daily usually is the best way to go. The followers are waiting for you to add things. Typically yes, your sales will increase. You will also gain more followers. Anyone just sitting on listings without adding more, or making changes to their listings the odds are numbers will continue to drop.
