How much inventory are you sitting on?

If you sold all of your current inventory that you have, how much money would you have from it?

And be realistic about the price it’ll sell for, average historical comparison price. Don’t be like 90% of the sellers here and think your wares are worth gajillions of dollars.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

Several times what we have listed on eBay and elsewhere.

Fortunately the way capital gains taxes are done here in Canada selling will not count as income exactly. I do not pretend to understand what the accountant told me.

But it will be better to sell over the next 15 to 20 years, although by 96 I don't think I'll find it fun anymore.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

I am currently selling everything I have listed way below what I paid for the items around 40 years ago.

I am so frustrated by the reduced number of sales compared to last year I just lowered my prices even more on 90% of them. I will not go any lower. If they don't sell, I will let the executer of my will take care of it after I drop dead. I will be lucky if I get 10-15% of my purchase price.

Best of luck to evrybody else here.

I have 11,000 listings. I won't state the total dollar amount as I consider that to be proprietary information.

But I will say that in the 19 years I have been here, carrying forward the same principals I had in my brick and mortar store, I have never discounted my prices. I automatically dismiss offers. I will make an adjustment if someone buys multiple items but the discount is only equal to any shipping savings.

And be realistic about the price it’ll sell for,

In other words, I realistically and fully expect to get the price I have listed them at for as long as I remain actively engaged.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

If I sold each individual item at $0.50 a piece, would I be asking too much?  Half a buck per would probably give me about $40,000-$50,000??   I bet someone would offer under $10,000 if they saw it all.   lol  Meanwhile, I have over $4,000 face value in useable new UK stamps - presentation packs.  😛

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

So many feel the same way you do & it's a real shame so many people have certain expectations from posting on eBay & having an immensely difficult time getting sales.  June is 1/2 over & I have 1 sale.  4 in May.  4 in April.  In 2 1/2 months, I have as many sales as I used to get in 1 slow week - 9.   I never expected 2023 to be worse than 2022 & 2022 was awful.  I've been relying on Marketplace to put food on my table.  I am doing much better when dealing with only 1000s of possible buyers compared to a site with MILLIONS of potential buyers.  It does not make sense to me!  I'm tired of people using the lame excuse about the economy.  Money is being spent everywhere.  Money is still flowing.  How much is spent on eBay daily?  Millions?  Does not sound like people are not buying.  Sellers like us do not have enough eyes on our items.  Why?  I have 36 listings.  More than half of them have 3 views or less.  After almost 1 month, 1 item has 0.  Most of my items have 0 competition.  Sitting; collecting dust.  Frustrating & discouraging!  Good luck to you & everyone!    🙂

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

If I sold it all today I would get 10 hundred billion.  However I will just take my time and be happy with the few thousand I make each month.  Keeps me busy and out of trouble.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

I have about 800 items listed and I could throw them all into a dumpster tomorrow and would still come out ahead as the cost per unit is negligible and I have made my profit on what has sold.  Sales are slowing this summer so I just buy less inventory which is easy as my sourcing niche, estate sales, have less items that are worth buying as more and more estate are more modern homes filled with box store junk.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

"Sitting on" is just the right description, since we went from an egalitarian platform where placement and visibility was based on performance.. to this nightmarish, race-to-the-bottom, pay-to-play racket.

Re: How much inventory are you sitting on?

"Egalitarian" means a principle where everyone deserves equal rights and opportunities.  Everyone here has the equal rights and opportunities to use promoted listings if they so choose to.
