I'm planning to list some items for sale and I'm wondering if there's a limit on how many times per day I can relist the same items? I want to refresh my listings every few hours, or at least once per day, so that I will always be at the top of "new item" searches. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm sure there is a software tool that does this. Thanks for the help!

Every time you "refresh" (Revise?) your listings, it takes up to 24 hours for them to re-index. In case you didn't know...

Am I misunderstanding your message? Why would you want to relist unless you had to do so?
When you say you want to "refresh" your listings, do you mean you want to revise them every few hours?
When you do that, it puts your item back at the bottom of the queue and I am certain that's not what you have in mind.

You cannot 'list' the same item over and over again (not even twice) until the listing is 'ended'.
Not a great 'strategy' to 'end and relist' in case you have anyone 'watching' your item to maybe buy later, or decide or? as it will not longer 'be a listing' if they click on it later.
If you have 'multiples of an item' you need to just 'update the quantity (does NOT solve the 'newest first issue' but seldom do people search that way or even 'manipulate' the search results as a large portion don't even know you can. Items come up as 'best match' and go from there.

The obvious bad consequences have already been mentioned....
I won't go into the more detailed reasons why it's a bad idea (IMHO)
but it is concievable that if you do this daily, it may NEVER be seen due to propogation and indexing....

For a myriad of reasons this would be a VERY bad idea unless your intent is to ensure that you never sell anything.

I have to agree with everyone here about it being a bad idea to relist constantly. You should set up your listing as best that you can with good sharp photos and a good description in your own words about what is great about your item.
Then, sit back and wait for the sales to come in. It really is a waiting game. Constantly playing around with your listing isn't good. At least wait a month to see how your listing is getting views, watchers or buyers.

This is a really good way to annoy buyers who check the new listings in a particular category at least once a day. "Oh, this thing AGAIN."

Re-list every few hours.
That's a great idea!
Why didn't I think of that?

Every time you list/relist it counts towards the 250 free listings per month so you may run out of free listings.

Thanks folks for your answers. I asked this question to raise attention, because I have encountered a seller who is doing this very thing. They are ending their listings and re-listing the same items over and over again, at a rate of about every 24-hours. They are doing this on several hundred listings, and yes, it is very annoying to buyers, myself included 😉 I do not intend to engage in this selling strategy myself (I was previously top seller), but I have reported these listings to ebay several times and it doesn't seem to be against any rules. This seller is effectively spamming "new items" searches and emails of new items from saved searches. I'm hoping that ebay will notice this bad seller behavior before it becomes too wide-spread!

It's been said many times, many ways, a very, very bad idea.

If you are talking about ending your listings and then relisting them, I'm pretty sure you can do it for as many times as you want to, although your time would probably be better spent finding items that actually sell without having to resort to doing something like that, over and over and over, during the course of a day.

you are reporting a non-violation, so no action will be taken

That sure didn't sound like something you weren't planning to do.
