I'm sorry I'm just not understanding how people place orders by mistake?
For the 4th time this week I'm awakened to find I sold something. Then 1 minute later I'm notified the purchaser wants to canceled because they "ordered by mistake."
All four of this weeks cancelers had feedback over 100 each so they aren't new. One then messaged me a second time to "uncancel" his cancellation request because he changed his mind a third time in 4 minutes.
It's not that I care if they cancel. It's I just can't see how one buys something accidentally? I have to click 2 or 3 things to make a purchase. Isn't that the same for most?
Yes, yes I know it's better to cancel etc.

Truth is you can't "order by mistake". It is just eBays way of coddling irresponsible behaviour from buyers.

It's called, "alcohol."

They "order by mistake" if they buy from you, and then 1 minute later are presented, courtesy of eBay, with a list of sellers from whom they COULD have bought at a cheaper price. (That, according to a post I read here a few days ago. I personally have not had that experience because I do not buy on eBay.).

I had one last month where the item got all the way to the buyer and on the day delivered opened up a return for "ordered by mistake". Not only did I pay to get it back, but when I opened it, it was evident they never opened the package as it still had all my packaging just the way I sent it. They could have a least done a girl a solid and just returned to sender lol. I WOULD have sent back the full return as it was free shipping for them anyway.

When a buyer says 'by mistake' does NOT mean they "Accidently proceeded with a sale and didn't intend to"..
many times it can mean (and we all know buyers should read/decide/ask questions BEFORE they buy but...)
"I read 'more' about your item and saw that it wouldn't work for me"
"I didn't see/comprehend that your item is for xyz or does xyz"
etc.
I know this because I ask people when they 'cancel' or open a refund "why" and they tell me reasons that make sense for it to "be an accident"
- none of which said 'I accidently pushed a whole lot of buttons'.

I get plenty of 'ordered by mistake' cancel requests, but for me it *usually* ends up being:
1) Buyer noticed they order to old address, only after completing purchase
2) Realized they want MORE from my store, and cancel to re-purchase in bulk or across items instead of just the one item they thought they wanted.
90% for me end up being those two, and 10% I accept the cancel and then never see them again.

MY truth is that it CAN happen, I know from personal experience when I have made a mistake.
Mistake #1 - Not paying attention
Mistake #2 - Not paying (a different type of) attention
Mistake #3 - Not fully understanding what the listing said until AFTER I had already bought
Perhaps buyers think that "made a mistake" will go down better than "I changed my mind".
I've only had a couple of these cancellations (in 25 years), one was "I just realized I already have this" another was "I really can't afford these right now".
I figure buyers are allowed to make mistakes to at least the same extent that sellers make mistakes.

I shake my head and ask myself that every time I get a request to cancel for "purchased by mistake".
Then the other day I ordered 20 items from a ebay seller that I can no longer get from my regular supplier.
About 3 minutes after placing the order, I found out that I CAN in fact still get them from my regular supplier.
So I had to cancel my ebay order and I used the excuse "ordered by mistake". LOL
I'm wondering now if i've been blocked by that seller.

I really wish eBay would remove that ridiculous reason.
Bought by mistake or accidentally.... horsefeathers I say!

Pretty much. The last one of those I had was the buyer saying "I bought the wrong character." I'm guessing they were getting a gift for someone and weren't familiar with that particular show themselves.

How about when you cancel/void a shipping label.
Of all the reasons, the "real" reason is not there.
"I screwed up."

I have no problem doing a cancel. But I wait until my "available funds" are in my banking first.
A refund shouldn't have to come out immediately from past payments of other buyers.

It is just one of the choices in the dropdown menu aka 'pick a lie list'. Though I don't know because I never tried it, I would not be surprised if it is the first choice in the list. I think another one used to be something along the lines of seller changed the description or terms after the sale...which of course would be an even bigger lie.
As an additional bonus, if the buyer has not paid yet and they request a cancel right away, even if you decline they will never get an unpaid item strike for that listing, and they can leave feedback as well.
