I will be having a hip replacement in the near future and will be in an orthopedic rehab facility for about a month.
Would love to be able to continue to sell on Ebay during this time. Most of what I sell needs to be scanned. I currently have a desk top pc and a large flat-bed scanner which I think would be too cumbersome in that environment.
I was thinking about buying a tablet and a hand-held scanner; however I am not at all technical so I was hoping for input from the Ebay selling community.
Thanks!!!

If your husband can handle the shipping, he can also handle the scanning end of the operation. That leaves descriptions and writeups for you to do.
I strongly recommend that you shut down before the surgery and then wait to see how you're feeling in the days and weeks afterwards. The range of recuperation times is very individual. I certainly hope that yours is short and that you quickly are feeling tip-top and bored. But in case you're not, there should be no pressure to "carry on" if you're not feeling up to it.

How bad is your hip? I had my right hip replaced 4 months ago and they sent me home the following day. I had in home PT for 3 weeks but was able to be home and walk the whole time? Sorry to hear you have to be in rehab that long!!

I would sooner bring a laptop than a tablet. You could pre-scan a bunch of items and have the images stored on it, then no need to bring any of the items or a scanner to the facility. Also, much easier to type and conduct business on a laptop.

Wow! I had no idea Maryl! Sounds like your recovery has gone very well. I’m glad to see you are getting out & about & it’s great to see you on the boards again 🙂

Yes, of course. But we're not talking about my phone.

Not saying you are wrong, just wondered.
Another thing I am wondering (and this is for the OP, not emerald), how about taking pictures of the items? That could possibly be disturbing to a room mate.
People go to a hospital or rehab center to recoup. Not to have to be in the next bed where someone is conducting ebay business. So unless you mute the sound on your computer, yes all the sounds coming from it would be considered annoying.
If I were in the next bed, I would certainly complain to staff.
You want to conduct business, pay for a private room.

I have had two of those, you will be up and about in no time!

As for the boredom factor:
Try to look at this as a sort of vacation. A chance to change the routine. I know that you will be working hard on therapy, and I don't dismiss that. But if you like to read, bring library books with you~or order books on Ebay. Your husband could return them and get more if you want. Do you needlepoint or embroider? May buy a kit to take with you to complete a new pillow or picture to frame and hang. Write letters to far away friends and relatives. Take a hand held game or pack of cards. If you crochet or knit, those are possibilities, too. You can buy word search books in the Dollar Store.
Between visitors, therapy, meals, medication, and sleep, you might not find yourself with enough spare time to be bored. You might feel tired and need a nap. You might not feel well. There are lots of variables here and I, like others, feel you might be asking far too much of yourself under the circumstance if you try to continue to sell.

wrote:Thanks for your input. I have decided to buy a tablet regardless if I sell or not on Ebay. Any recommendations as to what I should buy?
I'm an iPad guy myself, but that's just me. I'm sure plenty of people will tell you that there are Android-based tablets that are just as good and cheaper. Since tablets come in various sizes, it really comes down to what feels most comfortable in your hands.
Good luck!
Same here because the ipad has a sim card, which seems to be its only advantage.
Good wishes for a speedy recovery @antiqueconnect

Go 'shut down'! If the rehab facility is anything like where my MIL was, you will not be bored. Mom had about 2 hours of 'down time' after lunch. Between the actual rehab, maybe you want your hair or nails done!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and the meals! It's time for meeting new people.
Your goal is to go through recovery -- that's all!
BTW -- Mom was at a NHC facility!
Good Luck

Since your husband prefers to shut down, I would lean in that direction. This will also be a challenge for him to deal with the stress of your medical issues, being gone, and handling the home front by himself. Give yourself time to ease back in.
Hope all goes smoothly.
