How about a little something positive?

I rarely ever comment on this forum. In fact I hardly ever open the page. Reason being 90% of what is posted is negativity. I've never seen such a bunch of negative Nellies. Constantly hammering on eBay policies, complaining about low sales, ticked off because a buyer didn't pay. C'mon folks! You knew when you signed on that there would be non paying bidders here and there. If you are having problems with low sales maybe you need to check your inventory. Deal in something different and desirable.  I've been on eBay since 2000. I pretty much have had auctions every week since then. Has every week set a record---heck no. But, I've made a lot of money on eBay and and have had far more positive weeks then negative ones. I never do fixed price--always auctions and I'll never change that. It works for me. Stop the belly aching and blaming eBay or the economy and take a good hard look at what your selling and your pricing. Try some different inventory that can't be price shopped. Unique items that can't be found in brick and mortar stores. Suck it up and take responsibility upon your self AND STOP SPREADING DOOM AND GLOOM.

What you describe is inherent in human nature. I used to compile survey results and in most cases the majority of the responders were those that had issues or complaints. Those for whom everything was going well seem to feel that if all is well there is no reason to respond since there is nothing that needs changed.

It's like watching the news. What percentage of the new reported is positive? Which probably lead to the saying "No news is good news"

Agreed – life is good! Complaining solved absolutely nothing. It is wasted energy.

Most of those who participate here are eBay veterans like you.  (I'm 65, been an eBay seller since 1999.)

We know about old-fashioned notions like taking responsibility.   (You'd know that if you did visit more often.).

We also are familiar with section 4 of the eBay user agreement.  (If you don't know what section 4 says, I recommend reading it... you will then understand 99.999% of what happens on this platform.)

However, there are lots of sellers here who came of age behind a computer screen and have no idea how the world functioned (and -- SURPRISE! -- continues to function) before everything in life was available at the click of a mouse button.

These folks come to eBay with a distorted sense of entitlement, precious little experience navigating human relationships (which is what selling is all about), and grandiose expectations of making money while they sleep.

Sure, its a sad commentary on how IT has distorted perceptions and experiences and when the history of the human race is written in 500 years (if we are all around), it will be recorded that in November 2024, we were all witnessing the slow motion collapse of our civilization.

But until then, it can be fun and even a little rewarding to share ones experience, insights and perspectives to help assuage what for many to them seems like "gloom and doom."

After all, we know better, or at least we should.

I agree on some points but from what I’ve seen in the last 15 years is eBay is steadily increasing there fee percentages yearly now and god help us if it becomes quarterly 😣 so if you can imagine what will be looking at in 10 years time on average I will say maybe will be around 25% to 30% 😳 FVF by 2035! Now I have your attention lol so yeah imagine seeing almost half your profits gone with the added luxury of paying Higher shipping prices!! Oh it only gets better because all you have to do is look at eBay’s FEE trend and it’s never good for the “seller” and sometimes the buyer also because we have to increase shipping cost three times over to cover our losses!!! Good old eBay and What policy changes have benefited us ever in the last 10 years! ZERO 🙄

all of this is because eBay is losing sellers due to the competition especially FB marketplace so they will continue to increase fees and so much more … lol

I think that you missed the meaning of the post. Hey, I can’t imagine that there are sellers that like everything that eBay has done, but I can certainly find one or two things that have been positive for sellers.

Regardless, I do think that you’re looking at it the wrong way. No one is taking away your profits – Profits are earned, and aren’t a given.  If you’re complained that eBay is taking away profit, then you never had it to begin with. They don’t owe anything to you.

Be happy and thankful for what you have, not upset about what you don’t.  If you want more, best to look at what you can do for yourself, not complain about what others aren’t doing for you.

I confess to being extremely curious about the age and life experience of those in the forums who seem for all the world to completely lack the perspective it takes to do well on eBay (and perhaps, by extension, in life more generally).

For example, I cannot conceive of signing up on a site like eBay without being fully cognizant of the fact that I am a mere instrument to be used by eBay execs to satisfy a group of anonymous shareholders... for whom eBay policies are expressly designed and put into practice.

When I was a kid, I learned that the world was a pretty unforgiving place and that the best you could do was to take care of yourself and those close to you.   Anything more was icing on the cake.

The idea that someone somewhere in a position of authority was going to be looking after me, and that I just had to wait for that to happen, because I was inherently special or otherwise worthy of attention, never entered my consciousness.

A little something positive, ok. I took the dog for a walk on the towpath this morning. It was 65 degrees on the 1st of November, leaves were falling and very colorful there was a great early fall smell in the air. What a great time we had.

It is human nature. When things are good, people just keep on going never stopping to think about it.

With all that is going on this year, in 2024. People just are reaching out to others that they feel are in the same boat. eBay sellers want to feel connected.

Always hopeful and still listing here.

Don't forget to change your clock & enjoy that extra hour of sleep.

Have a great weekend!

The thing I like about this board (vs boards on Facebook etc) is that when someone complains you can go to their store or listings and see what the deal is.   Most times it's some newbie with 5 listings of overpriced garage sale garbage.  Poor photos, bad writeup full of spelling errors.  I call them the "Used Left Sock Sellers".

But it's not them..  their idea of how it works is that all 5 of those should sell this week, and then they'll list 5 more next week!  It's all eBay's fault!
