High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

Top Rated Seller here. Just got notice that I have a "very high not as described" count and that I'll be hit with extra fees. Went into the count with a text support person. SURPRISE - feebay counts damaged in mail as not as described. So, as seller, you have to refund someone for purchase AND shipping costs and THEN feebay hits you with 5% higher fees.

All this while continuing to give the (now) tiny Top Rated discount.

Does this make sense to ANYONE OUT THERE? What a scam. I pulled all my listings down except a few that I don't care about and put them back up on another account.

It makes perfect sense. The buyer did not receive the item they purchased in the condition described, so it is "not as described."

If you're having more than the very rare case of something being damaged in the mail, that means you are not packing your items well enough, which is entirely on you. You need to take a good hard look at your packing methods to figure out why so many of the things you're shipping are getting damaged.

Dont too many damaged in mail complaints point to poor packaging  on the sellers part? Looks like you have 244 listings.

Re: High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

If there is a high 'not as described' it sounds like the solution is 'describe them better'?

If a high number is damaged in shipping, then 'ship them better for less chance of damage'?

(I totally appreciate that's an over-simplification but you have to control the things you can control.)

And yet you've apparently had way more items damaged in the mail in the past 12 months than I've EVER had.

really seems like you are ebay shills. there is just no way there are this many trolls in the world.

@paradise-cds-and-cards:

Sounds like a case of a bad attitude here.

Thankfully, Vince deleted your "dumbo" comment.

If you want to be taken seriously, cease with the "feebay", falsely claiming this board is full of shills, and calling seasoned sellers "dumbo" and "trolls". We take time out of our busy day to be on this board and help others who genuinely want help instead of an audience to hear your rant.

This kind of confrontation blatantly advertises you have an ax to grind and don't really want help or advice, but just want to vent and strike out.

Your shoes are not nailed to the floor here at eBay... If you are really that bitter, you are free to walk away and go to another online sales venue. Your choice.

Cheers, Duffy

Re: High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

Buyers claims of "Not As Described" is not a matter of fact, but rather a matter of personal perspective.

Buyers lie all the time that their purchases were not as described, because they're broke and want their money back, and they dont want to pay for return shipping.

Sellers are being hit with added fees for things that are clearly outside of their control.

Re: High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

I see tell tail signs of Ebay Standard Envelope on your shipping.

This is an unreliable shipping method, and many sellers pack inadequately to meet the requirements of ESE.

I know it is necessary to make it possible to sell common cards, but selling commons is a choice you make.

There are repercussions. You may have found another. I am ticked my recent shipment has no scan yet.

Its the amazon generation. They use buzz words like defective, INAD, damaged etc, to make sure return goes thru. On Amazon, you can't contact the seller, so that's what people do.  To the buyer, they're talking to ebay, not the seller.

That is a specious statement.  The seller can't stop damage during transport if carriers toss items around and drop them.  It could be carrier people anywhere along the path to the buyer, you have no idea where it happens.  For me the only reason I know where I live I can't rely on UPS, for example, is because I learned as both a buyer and seller my local people use packages as soccer balls.

To get to the point of having extra fees added for Seller Metrics INAD'S, a seller does not incounter just a few incidents. A seller has serious problems that need to be addressed with their processes.

The seller sells cards. This has nothing to do with the package being tossed around and more to do with packing and the type of packing used. Maybe the OP needs to ask other card sellers here how they pack their cards securely.

Re: High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

Your being affected by the Service Metrics policy which Ebay implements several years ago.  You may want to read up on the policy since this has all caught you by surprise.  It is important for you to know and understand it so you can best figure out how to work your way out of it as quickly as possible.  It is VERY expensive to be Below Standard.

Good Luck.

Re: High Not as Described SCAM by Ebay

Seems odd to count a damaged in shipping as a "not as described"  when there is a specific option to select "Arrived damaged".

Why does eBay sell shipping with insurance for loss or damaged and then hold it against you?  I would appeal this one.
