when I did a search for an item, using my cell phone and email address (gmail), which is not the same as my account email address. eBay automatically created a new account for me! I did not see anything which would indicate this happened. I did my search and went about my business. Later, I received this email from eBay and just about had heart attack. I called right away and a very helpful CS rep was able to clear up the whole situation quickly.
Lesson learned...keep my old, non tech savvy fingers off of my phone when it comes to eBay.

I had the very same thing happen and I didn't know how it occurred. I know that Google saves my password and I was looking through my phone at eBay. I didn't know anything had occurred until I received the same message.
My question is.....how many accounts are being created whether legal or not? We keep hearing how the number of people on eBay is increasing. Well that's a sure easy way to pad the numbers don't you think?

I even have different ones on my favorite seller list so I can quickly pull a different one up without signing in and out. I don't like seeing reports of accounts being suspended without much (or any) explanation of what is going on.
Maybe this happened to me because an account was created by eBay when I signed in with my gmail account. I never intentionally created a new account. In fact, I probably would have never even known I had this new account if I had not received the email saying it was suspended.
Line me up next to abfab in the know-no-tech line behind the door. What does "account was created by eBay" mean?
As in, how the heck could you have an instant selling account with (supposed) listings that had been pulled and said account then suspended without giving ebay more information than an email address?
I'm still leaning toward the message could be authentic and have meaning but it's being sent to people for some glitchy reason. I know that's never happened here before...a programming glitch...but there's always a first time.

All I know is I did not create a new account. Who else could it be other than eBay? My account was not hacked. The CS rep said the account was created when I signed in with gmail. I did not and was not asked to provide any information at all when I signed in or while I was on eBay, so I guess the account was created out of thin air by the magic world of technology.

tyler@ebay- Are you able to explain what happened? There are 2 examples provided in this thread of people who created new accounts and got an instant suspension notice- it doesn't make any sense.
Hi @coffeebean832, this has actually been on my radar this week. I'm still looking into it, so the examples in this thread are super helpful. I'm going to be bringing this up with the techs next week. When I have more information to share then I'll be sure to update this thread. Thank you!

When this happened to you did you call eBay? If you did, what did they tell you?

Thank you for responding. I look forward to your update.

Me2 do not understand.
Many of the members have more than one ids: be they buying, selling, or posting.
Any of those ids can be used to view one's own or others items on sale.
Is this not the same scenario as the OP viewing his/her own listings using another id
regardless of what the electronic device OP is using.
Am also looking forward to brian@ebay feedback/findings.

Yea me too. In general I never use those options when visiting subscription websites. I always end up signing up on my own, try to go in as a guest (without an account), or not continuing to that site. That means you, Pinterest!

I'm afraid I didn't do anything. I just thought it was another of their screw ups.

If you still have the email, it will show the user ID assigned to this new account. I would call eBay and tell them what happened, have them to check this newly generated account, ask them to close it and remove it from your account records. I don't know if all of this is necessary, but I did not want any suspended account on my records.

Thank you so much for that advise. Always best to err on the side of caution. Quite frankly, all of this just makes me angrier and angrier. We keep being told there are more and more buyers yet almost everyone, with the exception of the rah rah group are experiencing the opposite. Some sellers who have unique and one of's may not feel this downturn, but I certainly know that it's not me causing it.

Did you do this from an iPhone because i did the same thing not knowing as well but being i used my iPhone and also having a gmail account being linked together because Apple makes you have an Apple ID which is connected to whatever email you use for it, and in some way it makes it the same but different email address or at least for curtain sites it does. This type of **bleep** never happened until people got to lazy to put in there email/username and password and websites like google and facebook started allowing apps and website to login through using that account. Its truly annoying and has made me lose time and money. sorry for venting and or if this was even close to the same situation

I was using an Android. I sure hope this nasty glitch that creates a new account, that the user never intended, has not raised its ugly head again. Sorry this is happening to you.
