Did you mean:

Here is what happened...

when I did a search for an item, using my cell phone and email address (gmail), which is not the same as my account email address.  eBay automatically created a new account for me!  I did not see anything which would indicate this happened.  I did my search and went about my business.  Later, I received this email from eBay and just about had heart attack.  I called right away and a very helpful CS rep was able to clear up the whole situation quickly.

Lesson learned...keep my old, non tech savvy fingers off of my phone when it comes to eBay.

Re: Here is what happened...

tyler@ebay- Are you able to explain what happened? There are 2 examples provided in this thread of people who created new accounts and got an instant suspension notice- it doesn't make any sense.

No, there's no indication that this was a test or glitch.

@mcdougle4248's original account may be fine, but the acount that was created by accident, was NARUed, so something definitely happened to the account that received the email.

The gmail account that was used to create the new account must have already been linked to the OP's selling account in some way, probably by IP address or something silmlar. So when it was used to create a new account, it apparently looked like a scammer was trying do something underhanded.

We can't know exactly what security warning was triggered, or what the new account did to trigger it, but it might have been something to do with the two accounts interacting in some way, or giving the appearance they were tryng to get around limitations on the accounts.

In a possibly similar situation, a former poster here once purchased an eBay Daily Deal while he was at work, so he was connected to the internet from inside his company's firewall. Shortly after, his account was suspended becuase they said he had used another account to defeat the allowed number of items that any one person was allowed to buy from that Deal. He realized that someone else at the same company, inside the same firewall, must have bought the same deal, and they thought both purchases had been made by him. Luckily, he was able to contact the community team and explain what had happened, and they were able to get the suspension removed.

I think I am confusing everyone here, sorry.  I Googled eBay from my cell phone.  I opened eBay from Google.  Then my phone ask me if I wanted to sign in with my gmail account and I did that.  Nothing seemed odd to me at this time.  I did my search, closed it out and that was all until the email came in on my gmail account.

Yea I understand what you did, but how is what you did against ebay policy? @lacemaker3  says it may be because ebay linked that account with your primary (sidestepping limits and such). But if that were true, wouldn't your primary and all accounts linked to it also be affected?

Oh boy...know I think I know what I did  I LOOKED AT ONE OF MY OWN ITEMS !  I didn't try to buy it, watch it, revise it or anything else, I just looked at it.

No, they don't always suspend both accounts. I suppose it depends on the circumstances.

Sorry for telling stories, but here's another story ... A few years ago, someone on the boards spotted a couple of accounts that were being used for bid shielding ... I don't want to go into details, but I did see the bid histories on several listings where the seller was cheated because the bidding price was raised above market value to prevent any competing bids from being placed, then the shield account's bids were retracted seconds before the auction ended, leaving the other account as the winner at well below market value. The scammer had figured out how to get around the time limits on retracting bids. Both accounts were reported, but only the shield account was NARUed.

That might have had something to do with it.

If you have other accounts, or someone in your family or a friend has an eBay account, it mgiht be a good idea to put those acccounts on your blocked buyer list.

Too late to ^edit^.

They might not have thought you personally were doing something wrong. Maybe that looked like something they see when a scammer is trying to hack an account. Just a thought.

First of all, I am more than tech not smart. But when I sign in from my lap it gives me the choice to use Google to sign in even though I do not have an actual gmail, which to me, is a google account mail? Just doing a DUH here. And I have never accessed from my cell phone? Apologize if I am even more out of it.

Sorry, I don't know. I am pretty tech savvy, but I have deliberately never created a google account.

And I won't use a smartphone to access any financial account or account which should be kept secure, because I know that it is too easy for someone to hack your smartphone if they have the knowledge and equipment. I also won't use a smart phone to control or access anything about my house or my car, for the same reason.

I don't think a google account and a gmail account are the same thing. But lots of websites use your email address as a kind of identifier for your account. PayPal does it, for example. You can have multiple email accounts attached to your PayPal account for receiving payment, but it's the original email address that you always use for logging into it, and there's no other user ID for your PayPal account, just the email address.

Re: Here is what happened...

I don't understand.  I have more than one ebay ID and I look at listings on one while signed into a different one.  I even have different ones on my favorite seller list so I can quickly pull a different one up without signing in and out.   I don't like seeing reports of accounts being suspended without much (or any) explanation of what is going on.

Maybe this happened to me because an account was created by eBay when I signed in with my gmail account.  I never intentionally created a new account.  In fact, I probably would have never even known I had this new account if I had not received the email saying it was suspended.

Wow, I’m glad I always sign in the old fashioned way and never use Gmail or Facebook when offered 3 sign in choices

Line me up next to abfab in the know-no-tech line behind the door.  What does "account was created by eBay" mean?

As in, how the heck could you have an instant selling account with (supposed) listings that had been pulled and said account then suspended without giving ebay more information than an email address?

I'm still leaning toward the message could be authentic and have meaning but it's being sent to people for some glitchy reason.  I know that's never happened here before...a programming glitch...but there's always a first time.

Signed,
