I am located in the Philippines and bought an NBA card on ebay. It is now with customs and I am being charged roughly $300 in taxes. I posted the same card and sold it on Ebay because I need funds asap but the problem is, Ebay says it estimates to release the money by December 29, my guess is that when the item arrives to the buyer, and that I have to ship it by October 15. The problem is, how do I get the card from customs when I am a bit tight with cash at the moment, and even if I get it, it would take a long time before the funds clear? Is there any workaround for this?

So you listed and sold an item you didn't even have in your possession?

You will have to cancel the sale by selecting the reason Out-of-Stock. That will put a ding on your seller account for a year.
Sellers can provide their buyers the best experience by having possession of the merchandise in hand. At times, I have waited to create listings until a bundle of cardboard boxes arrives here first.

There is NO work around for this.
You posted something for sale before you even had it in your hands.
This is simply NOT allowed and not advised because of these reasons.
Do NOT sell things you do not have in your hands. Period.

How much did you buy the card for? You sold it for $700. You are being charged $300 in taxes. It seems difficult to see how you can make any money on this.

So you posted an item for sale that you don't even have? You will need to cancel the sale as out of stock which will put a ding on your account.
You literally listed it for sale yesterday? You obviously knew you didn't have it as you knew it was still with customs so why would you list it for sale?
No there is no workaround. You messed up and now will get a ding on your account for it...most likely ended your selling career before it even started.

If you don't have the $300 to pay customs, how are you going to pay the $700 refund if you cancel the order?

Exactly, you don't have the item so now you will have to give a $700 refund to your buyer and also pay the $300 to customs...so now $1000 instead of just $300.

This is the type of situation the Vault was created for. Buy and sell a card that never moved from the vault.
But I haven't heard the Vault even mentioned in passing in a long time.
I'd say somehow you're going to have that raise that $300 to get the card and be able to ship it. Maybe get a short term loan from a relative or friend that can wait until your funds are released?

The funds are being held by Ebay, so technically I don't pay anything back because Ebay could release the funds back to the buyer.

My bad. It was my first time selling and didn't know that ebay would hold the funds for that long. The plan was once the funds cleared, which I thought would take a day or 2, I would claim the card from customs and send it out.

Was that an auction of a buyer who made a bid?
Even if you cancel this auction you will still be charged for the high bid of the winning auction bid as an eBay fee. And then I see a buy it now at $700. So, not sure what eBay will charge you for this sale even if you cancel it. Best to not cancel and try to get the card out of customs.
You owe eBay for selling or trying to sell the card.

You need to cancel the one you sold right away as out of stock.

All I can say is you got yourself into quite a pickle.
You should never list something you don't have.

Don't work that way.
As long as the funds are on hold, you have to cover any refunds.
Then when the hold is released, the funds will be sent to you.
