@Anonymous

While you're on the subject of shipping and tracking numbers, why do I have SEVERAL items which show NO delivery according to my sold page on eBay yet show as delivered DAYS (in some cases WEEKS) ago if I input the number to USPS website?

Hi @lookng2015, we've received reports of tracking information not displaying properly in our system and our tech teams are working on it right now. If you run into any defects or a loss of Top Rated Status because of these issues, you are welcome to contact Customer Service to have this addressed appropriately.

That could be the problem.  ebay doesn't go to the USPS website (or anywhere) to check tracking (or anything) - they expect  programming to bring everything, that they want to see, to them.  If it doesn't, then 'it must not be true'.

ebay's programming has never been widely proclaimed as being 'cutting edge', let alone 'renown'.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

Hi @gracieallen01, the information we have in our system is directly from the shipping couriers we have integrated with (which includes USPS, UPS and FedEx). If there is an issue with info we are being provided, then we will work to resolve this as quickly as possible and provide protections for any seller who was negatively impacted.

Well, to be fair, the USPS (for example) does provide a programming interface that allows anyone to make calls to their tracking database and retrieve publicly-available data for use by a third-party application. It's then up to the calling party (eBay in this case) to parse out and understand what they have received.

Unfortunately where things can go sideways is if the source (USPS) makes changes to the data, or the format of the data, that's being returned. It's up to the calling application to know what to do with it, and if the USPS makes changes that eBay wasn't expecting, you may or may not see all of your data until the tracking display software is updated for the new returned values (or whatever else needs changing).

For example, USPS tracking entries are now getting a whole lot more specific in details for a given event (e.g. I just got an update from them this morning reading "Delivered, Garage or Other Location at Address" with no mention of the proverbial porch at all), and if that's signified by a new return code that eBay doesn't expect, it's not going to get displayed properly on this side of the wall. (I sincerely hope it's not looking for the literal word "porch" to be there, or it will be sorely disappointed.)

It's all about communication, and making sure you're in synch with whoever else you're receiving data from. Sometimes that can be a bit of a... challenge... as we have seen here.

Re: Help I'm not understand what this means....

If you have a listing for two items and 3 days handling time buyer comes along and purchases one item and on the evening of the second day of handling they purchase the other one you refigure and resend a new invoice they pay on the evening of the third day of handling. You ship on the fourth day of handling of the original purchase and within one day of the second purchase,but ebay gives you a late shipping defect is there a reason for that action?

Handling time is counted from the time of payment, not the time of purchase (i.e. timing starts when you receive the money, not when the buyer wins the auction or hits the BIN button). If you were within the handling time for getting the package to the carrier (which it sounds like you were), can you verify that the package also got at least one in-network scan (Acceptance, presumably) within your handling time? That's where your shipping validation comes from.

I've noticed this also now. If they pay on 1/19(a friday), you really should have until 1/24 to get that out. But ebay has been saying 1/23.

I just went thru this with the auctions that ended last Monday night. I have 3 days also, and the date should have been 1/25, but it was 1/24.

But the timer doesnt stop until theres a scan from Usps that proves that they have it. Was there a scan from the PO within the handling time? Or was that what happened late?

Re: Help I'm not understand what this means....

We have a 3 day handling time and still get buyers that pay at 11pm Saturday night asking "why haven't you shipped,  where is my tracking?" by 8AM Sunday.

@Anonymous

As mentioned in the weekly chat a week or so ago, there's seems to be some discrepancies in not only delivery times but handling time deadlines.

Re: Help I'm not understand what this means....

I discovered that if I put a package or envelope in the mail box or if the post man picked up the package or envelope from my house, they do not always do they scan the package. Ebay goes by that scan. I have had to take it into the building of the post office and have them scan it in. Even if I have already paid for postage and used the shipping labels from Ebay. I haven't had any more problems with Ebay dinging me shipping late.
