Gift card fraud

I just want Ebay to know thia----- I sold a $75 Bath and Body Works gift card for $71.89 to someone

 Today he wanted a refund because he claimed that he didnt recognize the transaction.  I don't see how that is possible, considering that he had left me good feedback when it was delivered.  I submitted the tracking number to ebay for the dispute and proof of delivery, and ebay sided with this person and gave him the refund.  Then i went to check my feedback again and the one from this person was MISSING !     Obviously , they conned ebay out of $71.89.  I was covered under the seller protection, Thank God , but i just want you know , ebay, that these gift card frauders need to be dealt with better.  They get away with this all the time.

Re: Gift card fraud

Most retailers have a no return policy for gift cards . . .

It's entirely possible that the purchase was made from a hijacked account if the transaction was entirely removed from eBay including the feedback.

The real account owner probably had no knowledge of the transaction taking place, especially if they are like me and don't dutifully check their CC statement every month 😶

This is really plausible and seems to also be a running trend for Buyers who shop infrequently on this site.

We sold an Apple gift card back in May and immediately had an issue.  Decided that was all for us.  Tough category, so many scams, hard to keep up.

Thanks.  You are right.  The funny thing is I sold this card 3 months ago. I can't believe that ebay would believe that this guy would wait that long to dispute if he was on the up and up. Also , i don't know how he managed to delete the feedback that he gave to me.  But , you are right, no more gift cards.  Even when I sell priority with tracking number and proof  of delivery, the creeps still win.

Good girl! Proud of you! Creeps do win but you know what, their day will come. Good luck dotty!

Re: Gift card fraud

Yes , i have sold many gift cards and had about 5 scammers, but this guy is using a new tactic. And it doesn't seem to matter if I provide tracking number and proof of delivery or not,  Ebay always sides with the scammer, and there is never anywhere in the resolution center for me to write my side of the story. They only give a couple of choices of reasons to choose from, and i don't get to explain.     I just don't understand how they can keep allowing this to happen.  I'm seriously thinking of quitting ebay.

@dotty549

Please consider contacting e-bay thru social media and seeing if you can appeal this decision on this claim.

You are correct that there is not currently a "mechanism" to successfully combat several of these chargeback scenarios as presented.  I had success on social media to get e-Bay to do a courtesy back to us.  Good luck!

Re: Gift card fraud

I was  covered this time with seller protection because i provided the tracking number , but ebay still gave them a refund,  so they win again .
