Fraud

My name is Julie. I've been having trouble finding a place to email this.  My daughter's husband was listing an item for a seller thinking that he could make some additional income.  He listed a watch and did receive a payment so he thought this was legitimate.  The person asked him to use friends and family for payment.  My daughter and her husband found out that this person didn't send the watch and they were turned over to collections for $8600.  My daughter is 22 and needless to say does not have money.  Her husband was mortified that he fell for this and wouldn't let her tell anyone so this has just sat in collections since it happened.  I don't know what to do or if there is anything we can do.  If there is someone that we can contact for help on this please let me know.  This is just going to continue to ruin their credit and we certainly don't have the money to pay it.  I understand this is certainly a horrible lesson but this is so wrong.  If anyone knows who I should contact at Ebay, please let me know.

Thanks

Re: Fraud

In this case, I think SIL means Son In Law, not Sister In Law.

Makes sense.

I originally used BFF to refer to both men and women.  I mistakenly thought that BFF stood for

Best

Forever

Friend

But then I like to say that MIL (at least mine) stands for

Mother

In
Love

As far ad Mother Teresa, never heard of what you said about her.  In fact it is very contrary to what I always thought.  Will have to do some research on her to respond further. emerald to city - unquote ---------------

I've never heard of those charges either and I consider myself a pretty avid reader . I'm not catholic but I do have a deep respect for someone who gave her whole  life  to serve the sick and the needy . Tulips

I am Jewish but my husband is Catholic and he never heard of anything negative about her either.

For decades in the UK there was negative rumours about her, but I don't think any of it was actually backed up with concrete evidence, so I don't know if any of the rumours were true.

I heard somewhere that after her death, it was reported that she had lost her faith.

So much evil in the world, it is hard to keep faith.

Re: Fraud

Go to the local magistrates office and tell them what happened start there.  Then go to the lawer which is also expensive but you might get a judjment in your favor.    They may end up having to file bankruptcy just to get away from it.  So sorry to hear stories like that.  Yes its a tough lesson to be learned the hard way.  Wish uou guys the best.

Re: Fraud

Yes, I was thinking that too that they might have to file bankruptcy.

That is why they need to also talk to a financial planner that can tell them the pluses and mainy minuses for doing so.

I just did not see it in this case with this woman. I could be wrong. May be wrong. But I will give her the benefit of the doubt until I find reason not to do so.

Maybe it is because I get so many phone calls and emails trying to scam me that I know they are out there. Did you see my thread from Nigeria that I will get $10,000,000 if I send them $10,000. And of course there is my Castle in Great Britain.

And the guy calling me pretending to be my son telling me he was arrested and needed money. Loved that one especially for the fact that my son was sitting right across from me at the time.

I have seen it at the Casino. My husband and I go there with $40 each and do it for entertainment. On that I can gamble all day on the 2 cent machine.

I have seen countless people put in $20 bill after $20 bill. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Then go to the ATM machine for more, Then ask for a Casino loan against their house,

I have read where some have actually lost their house because of it. One person near me lost all her money. Then said to me that was half my rent money. I was hoping to win the rest of it. Well, she lost it all.

That is why I don’t gamble. I don’t know when to stop so I don’t start anymore.

No money lost = no crime.  Sorry.

So if I steal your car and when I get caught, I can just pay you back for the car. No crime ? Sorry but that is not how the judicial system works.  Another thing that does not add up: Why would the seller hand over all that cash to the person who supposedly had the watch without first making sure the buyer received it and was happy with it ?

A valid point.  I sell things for friends and family all the time but I wait until the item is delivered (and dont list it unless I have it IN MY HANDS) and that a little time has gone by to make sure it isnt coming back, THEN I give them the money.  I also have to deal with those who dont understand that things dont sell overnight, that there are fees, that sometimes they asking too much for it, etc.

Re: Fraud

OH and no way would I be giving anyone the ENTIRE $8600 - if I sold it for them, I would take a cut, the fees and shippping would need to be paid, etc. $6450 tops.

Re: Fraud

Never list for someone else on your account, and Never list before you know the policies and your protections as a seller.

Wow, I hope this is not for real.

Sincerely,

NOT an eBay employee (as I have been accused because I know policy).
