Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

The new Ebay Seller update states coming mid-March fixed price listings will becme good-till-cancelled-listings. I list close to 11,000 listings a month and will relist my items 3-4 times a month. This keeps the listings new and fresh. Wont the good-till-cancelled listings get stale and left in the background?

What does everyone think?

Not happy to hear about this Good Til Canceled garbage. It's just another money grab by Ebay. And yes, everyone knows that when an item is close to closing, the buyer always waits til the last minute. Bad enough we have to change the way we do business on Ebay, now Ebay is wanting to change our ways we do business. They are definately trying to Amazon this site. This isn't Amazon! Ebay should be about giving the customer a unique carefree platform to do business as they did 20 years ago. Now, we have to change how we accept payments and not do it through Paypal when it was once the only option and now, it won't be an option at all. Plus, there are 8 states that are going to collect their own sales tax through Ebay. Not that I believe this is Ebay's fault but there are getting to be too many fingers in the pie! What happened to trusting citizens to collect sales tax for out of state purchases just like back when catalog businesses were popular? Very frustrating!

Buyers do not have any reason to wait to buy a buy it now listing nor a GTC listing and I do not believe they actually do this for these formats?

Buyers do not wait to buy an item with a set price, most transactions are done quickly which is why fixed price listings are overwhelmingly what sells and listed the most for the same reasons.

Good Luck Selling!

This is not true. MOST sellers do not wait but SOME do wait. I occasionally have people buy a BIN at the last minute. You keep making statements that are not always based on facts. I do know what my buyers do, like the majority of sellers! And again, we cannot apply the same buying behavior to all categories. You may have different preferences and this is fine but, please.....

Well....just read the update on Fixed Price going to GTC and it appears they are going to do it whether we like it or not. THEY are deciding it's better for us and THEY are chipping away (again) at our independence. Funny they don't address their getting that extra 3 months listing fees on items that don't even exist anymore because they sold. Who the heck do you think you're fooling Ebay? Sadly we are well experienced in your games.

If you're not using the OOS option, the listing will end when it sells

Re: Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

I have used all the forms of listings on ebay and all durations.  GTC is the WORST if I want to actually sell something.  I only use it when I have more than one of an item and need to keep track of the number sold  For one of a kind items (95% of what I sell) I never use it.

I don't know why ebay would force you to use the worst listing for your particular items  Makes zero sense.

Re: Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

I'm in the same exact situation as you Ada0255.  I couldn't have expressed it better.  I believe you and I are in the same boat as thousands of sellers who will be negatively affected by this change.  I was even more frustrated and upset after hearing the update/clarification.  It was total nonsense.   This is a desperate money grab by Ebay. There's no other way to explain it.  They're going on the theory that people will forget about their postings that don't sell and they'll be listed time after time at a fee to the seller.  Kind of the guy who gets a gym membership in January and goes for two weeks but then continues to pay his membership month after month after month without going.  This is extremely short sighted thinking.  It's beyond ridiculous. They're more concerned about getting 10 cents or 35 cents from unknowing seller who don't constantly track their listings than trying to help us grow our business and sell more where everybody wins.

Re: Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

I'm in the process now of listing all of my listings to the other site I use.  I won't be able to relist them here with this stupid GTC and no listing sales and no sales.

What is the point of selling here if things don't sell.  eBay is DEAD!

Change the channel!

Re: Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

I've seen a few posters here, and on the other GTC discussion threads, interpreting GTC as a 3 month auto relist, like it is now. I'm interpreting it as a forever issue, unless it sells or is ended by the buyer. Can anyone please clarify? Thanks!

Re: Fixed LIstings becoming Good-till-cancelled????

Thank you!!  Yes!! Different preferences, But Please....

Insisting something is true does not make it so.

Being as seller on ebay is hard!!

One of the frustrations is being told well, blah blah blah, industry standards, increase sales, blah blah.

Then there are no hard facts to back any of it up.

We understand opinions, but to say.... This is how it is because I say so and I know is just irritating.

If you are a seller or buyer on ebay, most of what one knows is their experience.

If you work for ebay, then it is a different  view.

Everyones experience on ebay is their own.

There is little info provided by ebay beyond that. Most of the seller Hub stuff is just info on your own account.

There is so much we don't know because ebay doesn't share the info.

In our sales with collectibles, yes, many things sell the first few days after listing, then it slows down, perhaps with a burst at the end of the cycle.

Then, if item is listed again (at a time of our choosing), as a new item, the pattern can repeat, usually at a lesser degree.

We almost only buy used on ebay. Not new. New would be purchased right away. But collectibles & néw are two completely different markets. I usually watch & wait to see what things of ours sell, waiting for the $$. But, if it's the end of the cycle, and I really want it, then I buy. I never buy used things listed GTC. My own perception & choice.

With GTC mandatory, I will mostly look at auctions. If the newly listed is still available, I will look at that. Don't buy as much as I used to, anyway, shipping has raised prices, and we don't sell as much.

Thanks once again for your post vivabe!

I haven't seen any posters stating that.

Perhaps you're confusing the "forever" GTC with discussions re the OOS (out of stock) option on GTC listings which only lasts 90 days if the qty is zero?

GTC is not a "3 month auto relist."

A GTC listing just doesn't end, it rolls over every 30 days. It keeps the same listing number and if it's a multi-item with sales, it carries over the total number of "Sold."  It ends when (1)  all items are sold (if the seller doesn't have the "out of stock option activated) or (2) when the seller chooses to end it, or (3) maybe when eBay ends it if it hasn't had any sales for a long time. If none of those 3 things happen to end it, the listing can go on for years and years.
