Fees

I sold an item for 435 dollars. Ebay took 67 dollars.  So the seller fee is 15.5 percent?

Re: Fees

@fm2000 ,

Wayfair vs SD leveled the playing field versus brick and mortar retailers. In my opinion why should online retailers be exempt from collecting sales taxes in the first place?

The reason it probably got so little coverage in the news was because people were used to paying sales taxes when they bought things.

The problem is that the United States constitution commerce clause specifically does not allow one state to require a business or person in another state to do anything.

Absolutely correct for this transaction. Results will vary

Re: Fees

It's called FeeBay for a reason.

So basically I should have paid shipping myself since fleabay is charging me anyway.

You apparently have no idea how it works.

It might have been a good thing that you stopped selling.

Because they charge a fee?

Do you expect it to be free?

Re: Fees

I think we're all fine with paying a fee for services rendered, but when fees are calculated including shipping cost and sales tax - it's a bit ridiculous pushing 15%  overall charge.

I'd be fine with 10% transaction fee charged at end of sale based on the actually price of item.

Just now I was charged ~6 dollars for a ~25 dollar sale. That's a hard-hit in my opinion. Now when I was ready to start selling here again, I'm checking other options and will have to sell here at higher prices making items harder to sell.

Sure, 'free shipping' avoids some fees. But - I've always had good luck using calculated shipping costs based on location and buying & printing labels through eBay. That and then for free shipping the selling price needs to be increased, so it's a no-win situation.

Re: Fees

Yes — the $67 fee is normal because eBay combines final value and payment processing fees, which usually total around 15–16% of the sale.

Re: Fees

That seems quite low, I pay around 28%.

Re: Fees

Your item sold for $435.  Plus shipping.  Plus state sales tax, if any.

eBay's Final Value Fee is calculated on the total amount paid to the seller by the buyer, not on the item price alone.

Re: Fees

How does free shipping avoid some fees?

If I, as a seller, list an item for $110 with free shipping, and you, as a seller, list an item for $100 with $10 shipping, (ignoring state sales tax for now), won't our buyers each pay us $110 and won't our final value fees be the same?

Re: Fees

How are you calculating your fee percentage?

Is there a category where the FVF is 27%? Don't think so.

Re: Fees

As a seller, you would rather pay shipping yourself instead of having the buyer pay it? I don't get it.

Re: Fees

It blows me away that sellers can even list an item to sell without knowing what it costs to sell, then complain after the fact that they cant make any money.  Know your costs, all the cost, and price accordingly. Use an ebay fee calculator before listing if you have to.

A 13-20% fee  cost is about as cheap as you can sell anything anywhere when renting space and having someone else process the transaction....and that is what eBay is.
