I sold an item for 435 dollars. Ebay took 67 dollars.  So the seller fee is 15.5 percent?

Hi @printer2112

If your Buyer paid shipping and sales tax the eBay Final Value Fees are levied on the TOTAL amount the Buyer paid, not just the item price.  This at times appears to skew the fee % paid as many sellers just look at the item price.  The % can of course vary based on categories. Selling fees | eBay

Yes, in some categories. Remember that you're paying a final value fee based on the price of the item, shipping, and sales tax.

Did you read policies & fee information prior to listing the item, It's all way's the best thing to do, So you are not surprised or caught off guard by what you sell it for & what you actually receive.

EBAY selling fees charged on entire sale (purchase price + shipping + sales tax) plus 40 cent handling fee.

I hope you have set up an eBay seller account in which you have had to give eBay your bank account number and social security number so that they will be able to pay you.   Also, if you are a new or infrequent seller, you will probably have to wait about 30 days for eBay to release your money to you.

yes in this case to total fees were 15.5% of the sale price. That will vary dependent on category and how much the buyer paid shipping and taxes are.

Years ago I used to sell quite a bit. Fees were never this high. No more selling for me. Not worth it.

Lemme guess - part of that $67 was the cost of the shipping label. That money goes to the post office. That is NOT a seller fee.  A common misconception we see all the time.

So let's say that sales tax was added (could have been as much as 10% - $43.50) and your buyer was charged a shipping fee. $20 plus ???. So in fact your buyer may have paid a much as $500. $67 is 13.4% of $500 - not 15.5%.

the buyer pays you for shipping and you pay fees on that amount then you buy the shipping label wherever you want

The buyer pays the shipping fee and sales tax, but the eBay final value fee that you pay is based on the price of the item, the cost of shipping, and the sales tax.

No and this is one of the areas a lot of new Sellers get confused on.  You definitely want to use the Calculated shipping choice and put accurate weights and package dimensions on your listings.  This insures that your Buyers, regardless of how far away they are, will see how much they have to pay you to ship to them.

When you purchase and print your labels through eBay you get a discount on all services except USPS Media Mail.  That discount helps to offset the fees you owe on what the Buyer paid you.

If you offer Free Shipping all that means is that the Buyer does not pay anything to ship to them but you have to absorb that cost out of the price you listed the item for.
