Fees Rip Off!

Total rip off fees, sold an item for $100 with $13.75 for shipping, ebay took $16 in fees.

Re: Fees Rip Off!

You ordered and ate a steak dinner without looking at the price.

Then after dinner you complain about the price?

Re: Fees Rip Off!

agree with the original comment fees seem like they are getting out of control.   I can handle the 12.5% + my 9% sales tax( welcome to NY)...But the EBAY algorithm is strange if you don't promote it it doesn't get seen/sold....If you promote at the recommended level  Ebay suggests, your fees just went considerably up over the 12.5% didn't they?  The higher the fees go raises the awareness of other platforms as a possible solution. Amazon....FB marketplace etc.

What it means is someone doesn't know much about running a successful business.  You can't have higher prices than everyone else and actually have sales.   If you can't make a profit at a competitive price then you need to find a new source for products or a new line of business.

The problem comes in when competitive pricing is set by sellers like the OP that have no clue what their fees are (despite 7 pages of seller feedback to their name). Sellers list things at a loss because they don't know what their costs and fees really are- then the rest of us are affected by it.

Advising the OP to raise the price is- generally speaking- good advice. If all sellers in this situation raised their price instead of racing to the bottom then the rest of us would benefit.

You can't compare Ebay to Steak Dinner, it is more like a half cooked Hot Dog from a food truck on a weekend flea market. 🤔

So there are no state sales tax fees because Oz has no states, and apparently no equivalent governmental unit? Interesting.  Will need to keep that in mind when responding to queries here from Australian sellers.

Actually, sales tax in Australia is a flat percentage across the country and included in the advertised prices.

Sellers don’t pay sales tax. And the rate that your buyers pay is determined by where they live, not where you live.

Depends on what you're selling.  Not everyone sells commodities.

@postingid7659

IF one is going to be successful in selling anythings on eBay or in real life,  one needs to cover ALL your selling costs that  include eBay fees, shipping label costs, item acquisition costs, packaging materials, printing supplies, etc plus a target profit percentage.

Sellers need to research the market price for their items to determine if they can make a profit.  If they can't they need to find a less expensive source for their item or don't sell it.

Hint:  Don't go fishing where  all the other fishermen/women are  fishing too.  Margins  are  most often low.  Find a niche.

Re: Fees Rip Off!

The statement is NOT about being aware of the 12.5pc is it?
The factual print states that the person thinks the charges are a rip-off and I agree!
Also, ebay taking a percentage of the postage cost means that the seller has to fund that themselves or overcharge the buyer which in turn can put off a potential buyer making the purchase or bid.
Read and understand before making nonsensical comments!
