Feedback

So … I’ve sold for a few years here on eBay and frankly love it for the most part sold about 650 things and have had 100% feedback rating with about 590 there about positive fees back, never a negative until now  . I have an issue want to see if anyone might be able to shed any light.
I had a buyer post a very negative feedback. All was completely untrue . No communication from buyer before the feedback left.
so that’s it?? …. I just have to take it??
I asked for it to be removed…. eBay’s response NO doesn’t break any rules.
really  that’s it ?
I can sell something fairly, with little to no money made, and someone can ruin my feedback rating as a seller that I have gained by  working hard for several years now with one untrue comment?

You may be looking at the wrong FB.  The FB this OP received involved packing that appeared to the buyer to be composed of discarded household trash.  No mention of the shipping cost.

@soh.maryl  LOL feedback complained that they paid $15 for shipping and got trash for packing materials.

Since you are the only one, so far, has seen that negative FB as referring to the packing, why are there others who see the FB as being a complaint about the shipping cost?

@soh.maryl   the feedback complains about both, packing materials and being charged $15 shipping 😍

Re: Feedback

The negative feedback referred to the packing material used for shipping.  I don't believe the buyer was unhappy about the $15 shipping charge because the price was to high but because they expected the item to be professionally boxed and packed for the $15 charge.  I guess they were shocked at all the garbage the seller used as packing material.  I personally have purchased a lot of stuff from ebay sellers and most of them are not professional sellers so I have found a lot of old junk in the boxes used for packing.  I don't find that a good reason to leave negative feedback.

Re: Feedback

they came to the conclusion that I’m responsible for the carrier loosing the package.

Follow the money.

You hired the carrier. (USPS).

The carrier is responsible to you.

Have you filed an insurance claim with USPS?

You are responsible to your buyer.

Did you respond politely and refund promptly when you could not prove delivery?

It is not that you are responsible for the carrier losing the package, it is that you are responsible to see that buyer receives either the item ordered or a refund.  It is not your fault that the package was lost, but it is your responsibility.  So you make the buyer whole, and then you go after the carrier to reimburse you.

That is not just eBay policy.  It is the law of the land:  Perfect Tender Rule, United States Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) § 2-601.  So you make the buyer whole, and then you go after the carrier to reimburse you.

Think of it his way:  What if there were a glitch in processing the payment and your buyer said, "Hey!  Not my problem.  I did everything I was supposed to do, and it's not my fault you didn't get the payment.  So send me my item, and send it pronto!"  Would you ship?   Of course not.  It is the buyer's responsibility to be sure you receive payment.

Re: Feedback

Thank you -- that explains it! I picked up on the trash for packing part and others noticed the complaint about the shipping price.

"I am in the same boat currently, eBay WILL NOT help you (Seller). They’re a bunch of liars!!! I have transcripts with proof . I have been selling for a little under a year 100% feedback for 151 units over 92 shipments of this particular item. The post office lost the shipment and it’s pretty obvious. This package shipped thru 5 distribution center. I approached eBay and they came to the conclusion that I’m responsible for the carrier loosing the package. They lied to me and did absolutely nothing. I suggest going to Amazon or Walmart, I’m about done with eBay don’t expect any support"

You didnt know that as the seller, you are responsible for your item arriving to the buyer safe and intact? As you choose the shipper, the buck stops with you.

Re: Feedback

So, my question is, did you use any sort of used / recycled material, especially material not originally sold as packing material?

If you did not, then the buyer is confusing you with another seller, and you can leave feedback along the lines of: "Because I do not use recycled materials for packing, the buyer has evidently confused the order received from me with one sent by another seller."

If you did, then I think it's best to just leave it alone and let it eventually slide away.  What may seem to one person to be perfectly fine for packing may strike another person as totally unacceptable -- and it would do you more harm than good to get into a back-and-forth on the topic.
