Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

devon@ebay  kyle@ebay elizabeth@ebay

Still trying to get an answer to this simple question:

If I make a sale through ebay's Facebook Marketplace Integration, will ebay inform me that the sale was the result of FBMP integration?

This is a straightforward, yes or no, type question, nothing complicated about it. Surely someone at ebay knows the answer.

Looking forward to getting an answer soon....

Re: Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

Not answering your question, just discussing the topic in general:

It would be great if eBay gave us more visibility to sales conversion data - if sales came from our own social promotions, from Google shopping, or wherever. At least for sellers above the new/occasional classification.

Personally I'd like to see eBay provide item-level sales info for key words used to search direct on eBay that helped buyers find our items. That would help me improve my listings here on eBay for higher sales conversion by knowing which key words in my title worked and which didn't so I could have more direct and concise titles and item specifics. (Yeah, I also see how that could result in seller abuse and keyword spamming.)

As for FBM - I don't anticipate eBay is looking to share that info when they don't already share it when a sale comes through our own social sharing. I don't see why they'd want to let sellers know if a sale came through the FBM partnership as it may encourage sellers to list more direct on FBM. 😂

Years ago, as I recall, ebay did just that, using a thrid party provider, Omniture. We have asked ebay to provide that sort of granularity again, but , as you know, those requests have not been met. (Omniture was eventually taken over by Adobe, and I think is now part of Adobe Analytics.

I understand your point, but would really like to get a simple straightforward answer on this from ebay. While a lot of sales coming from FBMP might suggest using FBMP directly would be good, I personally can see a number of advantages to letting ebay handle it. (as well as some disadvantages, including ebays insistence on using AI to create descriptions for our listings on FBMP)

So, how about it, devon@ebay kyle@ebay elizabeth@ebay .....can I get an answer?

Re: Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

You @ tagged me, which I take to mean you're expecting a reply?

I made it clear I was not getting involved in the question you were asking eBay because I don't have an answer. In fact, I didn't get an answer to my question from April Seller News, either.

I did what I could to support you on the topic of eBay providing transparency in this type of situation so you weren't left hanging out there by yourself. I don't think I have much more to add to what I already posted.

Sorry, I tried to help you get the discussion going. Maybe others will chime in.

Re: Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

@wastingtime101 I tagged you because I thought you might be interested in the Omniture info... That the data you said you would like to see was something eBay used to provide. My mistake, sorry.

Re: Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

odd that there is no answer.......even " just that we've asked and haven't received an answer..." "we're working on that", "there will be enhancements in the future", etc.   Surely both Facebook and ebay have the stats on sales there.  I would presume Facebook didn't just add our listings out of the goodness of their hearts......there must be compensation of some kind, so there must be internal stats.  Jamie touted it to stockholders/financial institutions..so that suggests he will be reporting success of some kind.

Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques! At this time we do not have any additional insight that can be shared. We will be sure to let yourself and others know once there is information that can be shared.

OK, we've discussed Omniture several times before - at least I think it was you, but maybe not. 🙂

@dhbookds  no presumption needed - Meta/Facebook has explicitly said that while they may offer marketplace partners a fee-free intro period, these placements will eventually be monetized on a cost per click basis.

https://www.facebook.com/business/marketplace-partners

Are there any costs or fees involved in becoming a Marketplace partner?

Each new partner will have an initial period of fee-free integration. This will provide you with the opportunity to assess the benefits you get from the partnership without incurring any fees. After this initial fee-free period, we'll charge on a cost-per-click basis.

This, means you’ll incur a charge each time a user clicks on a button within the product details page of your Marketplace listing that redirects them to your website, where they can complete the transaction. Additional information on the cost-per-click model will be shared once you fill out the interest form and we determine your eligibility.

To be clear, that means that if/when the fee-free period is over, Facebook would be charging eBay on a CPC basis for these placements, not individual sellers directly - though I think we all know eventually sellers will end up paying for it one way or another either through eBay requiring use of Promoted Listings for these placements or maybe a general fee increase in the future if they choose to continue to leave eligibility open to all active listings.

I know @my-cottage-books-and-antiques is looking for an official answer from eBay that is obviously not going to be forthcoming any time soon, but my guess is eBay will eventually fold this into existing PL products (General External placements and/or Offsite Ads) once they have to start paying for it and if so, sellers may then have access to reporting that would at least tell them a sale came from one of those ads, even though it may not explicitly say it came from FB.

Re: Facebook Marketplace Integration Question

@valueaddedresource   thanks for your explanation.........I hadn't seen that, but figured there would be a charge to us at some point.  And I really do think they eventually will show what sales come from Facebook ........if only to encourage people to pay the eventual fee........  Some what akin to the orig PL program which gave sellers a credit to use it in the beginning.
