Embarrassed by the sellers price gouging on eBay

Not looking for advice or an answer to a question. Just sounding off!

Its interesting that I am  hearing a lot of comments from family members and friends who know I sell on eBay. Comments center around the price some sellers have listed sanitizing items for, asking me if I am doing the same thing. Most comments are benign some are more negative. I guess you find out the true nature of some folk.

I am not naive, been on this earth for 64 years A career in the Armed Forces, one in Law enforcement (Before I get comments about being a war monger or dirty cop, I like to believe I was one of the "good" guys) and 5 years of providing direct support for Adults with Developmental Disabilities has shown me the many facets of human nature. Of course I know there will always be people that take gross advantage of human misfortune.

But every time I see the type of person that tries to sell a bottle of hand sanitizer for $100 it still irks me.

I would venture to say that most of the sellers that use these forums are not in that group of lower life forms and I appreciate that.

So I have vented, thank you for reading and am interested in any other views.

Have a great day and good luck selling!

Corona was officially declared a pandemic today (forget if it was the WHO or CDC).

It has been a Pandemic for awhile, just many are darn scared of that word and for good reasons.  It is scary.  Yes I stated this on a different thread this morning it was WHO that announced that this morning.

Re: Embarrassed by the sellers price gouging on eBay

"We did not impact the shortages, because we were way ahead of the curve (shopping in mid Jan)…"

We waited until Feb, only because as a 'prepper' myself we had a good amount of supplies already. Did two major runs into town and stocked up on a lot more. I got tired before really finishing so didn't get dog and cat food, but found cases and bags here for (shock) less than at the store.

We are self isolating, being in that age group, have made one run to a very local out in the woods market for milk and bread. Will need eggs next week and will go to a small Safeway nearby, not the huge one in town. I miss our music gigs but got a call yesterday from an assisted living place we play at and they have cancelled us too. She said they'll call back when things have stabilized.

The whole thing feels really weird to me. On the positive side, it's a good thing that my hubby and I get along really well. We can practice songs, and catch up on magazines, and have about 4000 books to read, as well as projects around the house. Stay safe everyone.

Probably a wise decision on the part of Assisted Care type places as most of the serious cases seem to be older folks with underlying illnesses.

E-bay is a private company but they still have to abide by Federal, State and Local Law. They have a Disaster & Tragedy Policy that ALL Sellers should read and abide by.

I agree.  Losing money is by far the better option in this case.  She should cancel the vacation.  Yeah, that sucks.  But that's life.

Gretelent charged $34.99 for this package of toilet paper..it’s so small the entire package fit in my mailbox..they have the nerve to post an American Flag on their listing...Shameful!

Everybody is complaining about the sellers raising prices BUT nobody complains about the STORES doing the same! I recently paid $7.00 for a case of water that a month ago was 2 for $9.00 BUT that's ok!

If no one is complaining that would be the fault of those people.  It is ILLEGAL to do that.  And it is so easy to report them.  Just go to your states Attorney General website and file a complaint.  There are significant fines for this behavior and potentially criminal charges.  So report them.  If you choose not to take a few minutes to do that, then we can only assume you are OK with these prices.  While that may sound harsh, I do mean it that way, as if we don't stand up for ourselves, why should other people do it for us.

YES it can.  But then your reaction is exactly what they depend on so they can continue to break the law without consequences.
