Email from Webinterpret saying Ive been opted in. Is this real? More fun stuff.

I just woke up to 3 problems as usual. One big one is web-interpret cross border welcoming me and saying that ebay opted me in.   Im not clicking through anything and I know there were major issues in the past.   I never would opt in and have offered international shipping for 10 years.  Im at a point where I may stop all international shipping.  I had 2 - no pickups, 1 in Germany and 1 in the UK. Really Im at the point of about closing my store after almost 3 million in sales.

The last thing I want is being auto-opted into a program that is scammy. Also telling me I have to offer 30 day paid returns, which I will close my store before doing that. Ive always taken returns, Ive always shipped international but, I need to have some control over that. An overseas return is costly and buyers not wanting to pay customs is becoming common.

I want to sell to everyone, everywhere. Its in our best business interest but, when ever little thing is micromanaged poorly, we stand to lose more money and time which gives us no time to actually work on our store.

I called ebay while writing this and couldnt be told if I was opted in or not.  I was told to go to webinterpret and click a link and send a message and to report to spoof@ebay.   It seems rather antiquated that ebay couldnt tell me and that I have to write companies to see if Im opted in.  Its just one thing after another here.

Another issue some of you may be able to clarify for me.  Weve shipped everyday since the beginning.  Noone had to make us do this or threaten us with defects.  Yet of course they did. The most common feedback we get is super fast shipping or something like that.

it took us a long time to sort out usps as we had no full time carrier becasue our mail route was long and noone wanted it. For a long time, we were literally chasing carriers, running to the post office before close and always stressed out about something we already did but, to get that scan. We had 7 different carriers some weeks, all at different times. After a lot of begging, we got on a route for pickups becasue we did enough volume.  We have guy who comes everyday so it was a load off our shoulders.  Now we moved close by and the same guy comes and he's great.  The issue is now that due to our sales taking a dump, and some days we have 0-2 packages, it looks like we are losing our pickup.  USPS will not pickup on a route unless you do x amount of packages, which we no longer do and it is 100% ebays issues.  We never had blackouts and were on a constant climb until June 2018.

Recently with the quadrupling of returns, we started charging shipping again. Things changed for the worse and free  shipping became an open invite to buy without thinking.  We have no discounts, I dont beleive anything we do can make Cassinni like us, so if we lose our carrier we will stop shipping daily. Not intentionally, as we will still do the packages but, we will not drive to the post office daily or have the stress of chasing down an unsuspecting mailman with a bunch of packages. We will have to put them out with scan sheet and cross our fingers.  We have a job box with a code and instructions on our porch. We can request pickups through the site again and add instructions but, we know how that worked out last time, which was sometimes packages wouldnt be picked up.

This will surely tank our shipping % if a decent size load doesnt get picked up and I cant bare to call ebay everyday like the old days.  What will this do to our account ? We dont care about badges, weve been here long enough to have repeat customers and weve seen this terror ship coming at us for years so made lots of money and diversified, assuming that we wouldnt be selling here some day.  Of course I dont want to see the work weve put in to the store go away but sunk cost fallacy be damned.

So many unintended consequences have made doing business here harder.  We have almost always been 100% feedback sellers, we had all the discounts and shipped 6 days a week. 45k a month was average. Almost 3 million in sales.  Right now if 1 of of every item in our store sold, the value of current prices is 500k. much of that stuff we have in large quantities not listed on ebay. We also have enough inventory to quadruple the size of our store but, severely diminished returns if we go at it like we used to for much less. Many millions in inventory.

Weve done every edit and change over the years, weve tried free returns, done free shipping for years and now find ourselves selling much less but constant issues. The customer has almost become a unintended adversary. We block at the slightest hint of issue and look at feedback left by buyers when they ask questions.  This is the only protection we have when ebay stopped protecting us.  We have always been top sellers , never losing discounts and being crazy to get our scans and packages out as intended. Ebay has constantly made this harder to achieve through the one size fits all, treating us all like were crooks and not doing something right.  We used to rewards, now we get threats constantly. Psychologically, its pretty messed up. It doesnt matter if its un-intended, thats what it is. Constant problems, different solutions from different people and usually several cs calls or emails to get a halfway decent solution.

This is different than what has ever happened here.  I would bet that some of us sellers were ebays best buyers as well. Now we see no reason to invest more and more time and money as the present and end looks bleak. I'll beleive seller protections when I see them.

Started the day out with manufactured problems is becoming more the norm and it doesnt get ant easier, it just builds up until we are about to pop.

If you are ever concerned about an email potentially not being from eBay, you can forward it to spoof@ebay.com for us to review those concerns.

No response necessary~just a side note.  I received a message that I thought was possibly not from Ebay.  It was a long time ago and I can't recall now what the subject of the message was.  I forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com and asked if it was legitimate or not.  I never heard back from them, but later determined it was indeed legitimate.

Auto enroll would be accurate, to me, and then opt out if that is what is happening.

You're right~not sure what else could be said as you say.  It's an awkward situation to be sure.  I think he alluded to the possibility of there being different promotions out there so possibly that accounts for the discrepancy which I found confusing.

Re: Email from Webinterpret saying Ive been opted in. Is this real? More fun stuff.

Well for those waiting to know if Ive been opted in.  I HAVE without me ever clicking anything.  I just decided to edit a few categories while I was relaxingand all of the sudden I have multiple same listings in different languages.  So much for relaxing or getting anything done.

Talk about making editing your listing extremely difficult when you have 3-4 of the same item scattered on the page. They are not even next to each other. .  Not sure when I was that actually happened but, I have squat for sales and my listings still show the 4000+ I have in active listings #. I literally cannot edit my listings as there are duplicates scattered on the page.  How am I supposed to tell what I have done.

It took a full 30 seconds for Site prefernces to open up to see if they added it as a subscription. Instead of editing my listings and creating a sale, I am now frustrated and searching my account and trying to figure out how to stop this.

There are no subscriptions on my store.

I LITERALLY CANNOT EDIT MY LISTINGS WHEN IT SHOWS 4 OF THE SAME LISTINGS. IT IS HARD ENOUGH TO KEEP TRACK OF OVER 4000 LISTINGS.

This is the last days for us and ebay literally hates us as sellers.  They dont care what we want, fine. They dont let us run our own businesses, well if we still make money to a degree, we dont care.  To kill our sales and make our entire working life about working around, opting out or undoing things gives us zero time to work on our store.

To top that off, I went into advertising settings and the amount of data we are sharing with an crazy amount of partners and half of them say  "Requires opt out"

EBAY, WE ARE MAKING ALMOST NO SALES AND THE ONES WE ARE MAKING ARE ALWAYS HAVING ISSUES WITH NOT SHOWING OUR SHIPPING OPTIONS!!   THIS IS THE WORST THIS COMPANY HAS BEEN IN 20 YEARS.  HOW IS US SELLING A WINNING BUSINESS MODEL? ARE THEY MAKING MORE MONEY WITH ADVERTISERS? WHO IS GOING TO ADVERTISE WHEN WE ALL STOP BUYING AND SELLING?

EVERY SINGLE DAY THERE IS AN ISSUE, ALL 100% MANUFACTURED BY PEOPLE WITH TERRIBLE IDEAS.  YES I AM YELLING.  I HAVE A BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR RIGHT HERE THAT I WAS PLAYING WITH AND MY BLOOD PRESSURE LITERALLY JUST WENT UP.

We bought a "farm" this winter and are selling property off at this moment as we see no light at the end of this tunnel.  I would guess q3 earnings are going to be terrible!

I love it when even shadier companies have our data through some unreadable TOS.

I just decided to edit anyway. Just to see what happens.  If I were going to edit an item, lets try and edit the duplicate foreign listings.  Of course having so many listings, bulk edit is the only way. Well guess what? I got a message that my listings were created on another site so I cannot bulk edit them.

We as business owners need to be able to edit when we need to edit, otherwise we are being blocked from changing things without going in to every site and doing it individually.

Another issue is that I use about half of my stores allotment of listings. When I go on vacation for 3 weeks like I just did, im guessing my items are stale in the ether so i end and relist with some changes if needed .  Am I now going to see more than 10,000 listings and have to call ebay 11 times to have the listing fees removed and do I have the time to look for that, no.

There is no time to work on our stores anymore. All time goes to not losing money and were still losing money.

@soccerteeth

hey, just a thought as i will not do international shipping here on ebay like i do on another site ... but anyway .... if you do not absolutely rely on international sales, you might do a bulk edit to remove all international sales info (after backing up of course).  then hit the 'opt out' on the message.  i don't know if changing account password will help since webinterpret obviously does not use a 'token' access like the other 3rd party programs and sites.

once you opt out and remove all international shipping info, change your will not ship to defaults to remove all international.  then call ebay and tell them you are opted out and no longer ship internationally.  also that they need to get their buddies in webinterpret to remove ALL the listings ouside ebay-us that THEY are responsible for.  might even mention that if it is not done, since you did not do anything to OPT into the program, that your next step is contacting the state and possibly federal attorney generals and trade commissions.

....just my 2cents into the peanut machine.

Re: Email from Webinterpret saying Ive been opted in. Is this real? More fun stuff.

I tried editing a bunch of items and it closed on me the first time, reverting back to the active listing page.

I just chose 16 items on the top of my active listing page and I got the same message but, this time went through to the bulk editing page.   Guess how many items? 1 item of 16 was able to be edited in bulk edit due to them having been created on another ebay website.

YOU CANNOT BULK EDIT YOUR LISTNGS IF WEBINTERPRET CREATED THEM FOR YOU! Yelling again. Why in the world would we want to bulk edit our 4000+ listings? Oh because were making no money but, spending a ton of time trying to figure out how or why.

Im sure glad ebay decided to wait until monday to look into this.

That is only a few so far. So each number being the same item but, in a different language.

Then I find out, I cannot bulk edit any of those items that I had quite a bit of editing to do.

if i decide to edit individually for the sake of figuring out whats up. I have to login to each different ebay foreign site and then when adding something to the description adds in in english on the german site. Meaning I cannot edit a listings info on a site that I do not speak the language.

Also< I have shipped internationally the entire time I have been a seller on ebay.  I already ship to Germany, Australia, Spain, italy, and any place that hasnt been blocked due to too many buyers not paying duties.  Which is becoming a huge problem.   I just had a buyer in the UK open a return and not want to pay the customs duties and tell me to expect the item to come back to me ($55 shipping and packed well but fragile enough to possibly get destroyed on a no postage paid return to sender trip) the item was purchased 30+ days ago, it was in the UK for a while and attempted deliveried, the buyer opens up a return case on day 31. Another issue there is unpaid return trips, aside from looking like they had been runover, have taken months to be returned in the past.  Seriously a non pickup took more than 2 months to arrive back to me.

To recap, since there are so many posts.  I got welcome messages from webinterpret and a phone call, 3 within hours. I called ebay and they saw nothing.  I was told to call CS again by ebay on this board, The fella on the other end saw nothing.  My store does not list subscriptions or a way to opt out that I can tell.

I just decided to do some weekend bulk editing and my listings are duplicated and scattered on the page.  If my items are a number for instance, here is what I see.

The store is going on vacation again now. So we and ebay will make no money from us this weekend.  We werent anyway. I sold $79 since yesterday and we sold 10k+ per week for years. Do the math. of the 3 items sold, one was a cancellation and a buyer asking for faster shipping due to ebay only showing the first class option.  A small, cheap item, that we were not going to pay for priority mail service.

The buyer was welcome to choose that option but was not offered it and I confirmed it is there.

This place has been an absolute catastrophe.

Re: Email from Webinterpret saying Ive been opted in. Is this real? More fun stuff.

There was no opt out on my unopened invite.

I did not want a shady company having my login credentials. I sent a message to webinterpret and have closed my store for the weekend.  "Vacation" mode.  I tried clicking chat to someone but of course they arent open and I was not logging in with my ebay password.   I think I will change it asap and then again, when Im out.

This has been a terribel week back after 3 weeks off due to being terrible.  Perhaps I will not reopen for the summer. The way it looks is a waste of my time to do only afew packages a day and probably lose our usps pickup now that we are not maing the volume that we always have.  That would leave us driving to the post office daily in a city or hoping the mailman picks up and we dont have a reglar mailman. Noone wants the long route, so its shared, meaning we have several different people doing our regular route and you never know when they will come.  Mailman just came at 7pm today.

This just keeps getting worse.  I think I may put some makeup on and make youtube video.

I feel your pain.    The "authorization"  for this company is no longer listed under your Site Preferences under "Third Party Authorizations"?     Months ago when this fiasco first started it was in there, and you could revoke.  Not to say they didn't put it back, after one did so.  Just wondering.

If you edit your original US listing, does it then automatically mirror that change to all the other foreign websites since those listings are essentially clones? If not, that is definitely NOT workable no matter what.

Isn't there a way on your site preferences to change that setting to exclude ALL international shipping. If so try changing that and maybe it will get you automatically removed from the program and cancel the listings.

Does anyone on these boards know if this is possible and can lend this seller a hand in making it happen?

changing site prefs to remove all international shipping won't work for listings created with (intentional) internation shipping options.  those would have to be edited out via bulk editing first, before site preferences take over.  this is how i believe the system currently handles this because it allows you in creation of a listing to overwrite site preferences like international shipping

Re: Email from Webinterpret saying Ive been opted in. Is this real? More fun stuff.

I just checked my site preferences and there are two places that might help.

There is an area titled - list on worldwide sites. You deselect all worldwide ebay sites except USA and save that.

Then go to the shipping preferences (again on your site preferences page) and you can exclude ALL ship to locations worldwide except USA and save that. Maybe that will get them kicked off the program.

Well, so much for assurances that nobody is OPTED IN - oh sorry, ENROLLED - and listings started, without their consent.

I wonder if the same assurances work for the 'no fees'?

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.
