I sold an item a couple weeks ago. The item was listed no returns. The buyer got the item and it did not fit and they filed for a return under that reasoning. I declined it. A week or so later I just got a message saying they opened a case. A minute later I got another email saying they are allowing the buyer to return the item and will deduct the refund and cost of shipping from my available funds.
So I am just giving ebay free reign over my money now to do as they wish and not follow their own rules and policies? This place still just a venue? It was a remorse return, the item had no returns offered, I declined the return request. End of story. What sort of precedent are they sending here? This happen to anyone else before and any luck fighting it?

Sounds like the case was for item not as described, in that event, Ebay would rule in favor of the buyer.

If the buyer opened a case for Item Not As Described, the result would be what you have seen.
Many buyers will if you do not allow their return for other reasons. Ebay is not a court with a judge and jury, Ebay will do what it needs to to make this case a closed case.
There are no final sales on Ebay. There are very few final sales when a credit card is used as the payment method.
If you have sold 12K items without encountering this, you are well ahead of the game and should not waste any more time on this sale.

Was the case opened as "not as described" but in the comments section, they mentioned "fit?"
If that's the case, it was opened as NAD and if you declined, it sounds like the buyer escalated.
I can't imagine any other way that it would happen as you describe.

The return was filed as "Doesn't fit", I was given the option to decline the return which I selected. I 100% know what I am talking about and believe it or not there is no misunderstanding. Ebay literally just forced a remorse return when returns were not offered.

I clicked on a lot of your sold listings and every one has 30 day returns.
That mesns they can return an item for any reason.
Your item that was listed for parts or not working has 30 day returns. Therefore they can return it!
No need to fight it. All that will do is earn you a defect if you ask eBay for help.

I didn't even look at your listings and return policy until @fab_finds4u posted above.
You have 480 completed listings, 447 of which have a return policy.
Was the particular item your buyer claimed doesn't fit on of the 33 items that aren't returnable?

Ebay's MBG OVERRIDES a seller's return policy... which is stupid, in a way, since Ebay "allows" a seller to set up "no returns" but it's kind of a facade.
You can offer no returns, you can decline a return, but Ebay will override you. They are not breaking their own policy

I did not think a buyer could open 2 cases (or re-open a case?)

Have you double checked your return policy on this item? I know fit is a remorse reason for things like clothing, but aren't some categories different? For instance, I thought auto parts could be not as described based on fit, so I wonder if appliance parts might be too?

Case opened
Return ID: 5278081787
Requested: Nov 11, 2024
Reason: Doesn't fit
But your listings DO accept returns.
Looks like you made a mistake here buddy.
I think you owe ebay an apology.

Not all of my listings offer returns. How would I of been able to decline the return in the first place if I accepted returns? I grew tired of all of the remorse returns I was getting where ebay was basically making me pay for return shipping anyways so as someone recommended I started testing no returns on some items. This was one of several I have sold since then. Here is the listing 375758835728 If the listing offered returns
Point blank ebay just forced a remorse return after I declined it when I don't accept remorse returns for the item. There is no ifs, ands or buts about it.

The item must have offered returns.
Declining would give them the option to open a case for violation of your return policy.

Ok if you say so.
Question: What action are you going to take?

What do you mean okay if I say so. I gave you the item number, I showed you how they filed it? Its right there black and white. There is no arguing what ebay did.
My listing had no returns. (Which I proved by posting my item id)
Buyer filed a remorse return (Which I proved by posting it)
Again so people are going to keep glossing over the fact RETURNS WERE NOT OFFERED ON THE LISTING look up the item number under completed listings. Its item number 375758835728
As for what I am going to do I contacted ebay on facebook but they are still looking into it, Its been about an hour.
