Ebay authentication address or scammer

I'm mailing a $2000 gold necklace to/from NY. Ebay shows authentication address to CA. I can't confirm this is a legit address or a hacker. I only see two addresses that ebay uses for authentication, one in NJ and one in Vegas. Me and buyer both live  in NY. Why would it go to CA??

Although I no longer sell on eBay, have to congratulate you on having enough confidence to list and sell such a high value item on eBay.  Or isn't 2K considered "high value" anymore?

Seller's are very well protected with items that go through authentication. Most items are "Final Sale" and even if there is returns available they have to be sent back through the authenticator with the tag/seal still intact so there's no possibility of switcheroos.

Personally I wouldn't sell anything that valuable here that wasn't authenticated.

As everyone said, yes, that's the correct address.  On the sale information page there is a link that says something like "click to see recipient address".  If you click that, you can see where GIA will send it after authentication.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but...

Are you aware that anyone can steal that $2,000 necklace from you simply by making a false claim and there is nothing you can do about it.

I would have to think long and hard before selling a $200 item on ebay, let alone a $2,000 item.

Not sure why you would say that.

additionally that is the correct address.

because the USPS is really good at losing items and really bad at paying insurance claims

In the nearly 50 years using USPS I have a successful delivery rate of 99.999% with domestic USPS. From time to time they are late but not lost, I've also had a small number of damaged in transit but still, not lost.

What kind of false claim. Doesn't the authentication cover me?

Hey Debbie, that might be a bit difficult for a buyer to do with an "authenticated" item 😂.

to add. I get shaky when I hit the $100 mark.

They must have more than one location for sneakers.

The sneakers I sold went to Moonachie, NJ for authentication
