EIS Migration - Can We Opt Out?

I got an email recently saying I would be enrolled in EIS. My international customers do not want this. You can't combine items and most like to do that (and pay one low shipping rate for everything combined) and Canadian customers certainly won't want to give up their 2.65 postage rate for this EIS noise.

How do I opt out of this?

All my listings (that are not intended to be USA only) have shipping added by Economy International method with a postage rate for me to post it to them myself, either by USPS, Asendia, Chit Chats or Canada Post. I choose the method.

Help with opting out please.

Thank you,

C.

Re: EIS Migration - Can We Opt Out?

Yes, you can opt out after your account is enrolled: https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Keep in mind that when you offer direct international shipping options (which I know you do), that will override EIS for those countries.

Re: EIS Migration - Can We Opt Out?

How does this effect people like me, I ONLY sell and ship domestic. Is eBay going to

flip a switch like Managed payments and all of a sudden I have international sales

that I WILL NOT ship?

Your International sale will ship domestic (as far as your shipping label goes). I guess you will have to opt out to not use this service.

I don't trust these services, I've received damaged packages from the US that were shipped with GSP (like them opening the box to inspect but not taping it closed... at least my item was still in the box, the seller was from this forum, so when she said she didn't do that, I believed her).

FYI letter may have come a little late it looks like you have already been transitioned. I looked at a couple of your items most of which only ship domestically.

@sin-n-dex
As @dbfolks166mt pointed out some of your listings do show EIS.  Did some of your listings not already have international shipping or did eBay actually change those listing with economy international to EIS?

Which country are you saying you're from with the Russian Postcard? Postcards should have USA and Canada shipping, some might be international to some countries, but I can't remember off hand.

So I can't answer if they've changed on me. I'll go and look.

If you're looking at a listing for a token or single coin in cardboard flip, those should have international shipping to Canada, UK, Australia, etc.

Looks like the shipping fees are at lot higher using EIS.

I could not find the original item that I had posted the screen shot of but I took a look at a couple of your postcards using UK as the country and while they do not show EIS for international shipping they do show international shipping to several countries. While the UK is not in your list of ship to countries it is also not in your excluded list either. I captured a bit more of the screen this time.

You do still have some items showing as using EIS. Necklace example shown below for UK.

Re: EIS Migration - Can We Opt Out?

@dbfolks166mt

Thanks for that. The postcard says it ships to "Europe" which would encompass the UK, but I noticed there's countries in Europe that are on the excluded list, so I guess that's a little weird. Seems as though I put international shipping on the postcards (they are done from templates, so it's safe to assume all of that type of card fall in this category).

For the jewellery, none of that has been set up with International shipping, that's why the EIS.

I'm not sure I'm clear on this program. Is it like GSP? Am I going to be responsible if they don't receive it? Or is my job done once it gets to the processing center? (unless there's a SNAD, of course... I'm just worried about INRs).

I may not opt out of this right away and see how it goes. If it's rife with problems and complaints, I'll be more likely to opt out. I do just fine for the most part with domestic sales, but certain types of items I have attract international buyers (like the Canadian stuff attracts people in Canada, and the Scotland tokens are sold mostly to the UK, that kind of thing).

Quite welcome. Actually the program looks pretty good on the surface and a couple of postings have indicated they are standing behind the seller protections for EIS which by the way are far and above what they are for domestic sales. Following is some info on the program, how it works and the protections they offer. The only issues seem to have been with the transition and a few of the restrictions and shipping size limits.

It says no "stamps, coins, paper money" allowed with this program.

Is the web programming smart enough to know that if I listed it in those categories it can't be shipped with EIS?

The postcard and necklace you sent a screen shot of don't fall in those categories. For the most part my coins, paper money and stamps all have my own international shipping added to the listing (with the exception of coin sets and things in boxes and cases, they are too challenging to deal with Canada Post, so I opted to make that type of listing domestic only).

Not sure  how "smart" the software is for new listings but that appeared to be one of the problems during the transition. I am currently not using EIS but will probably opt in shortly since the program sees to be going pretty well. I don't list in either of those categories so I cannot confirm how "smart" the software is but hopefully some other members who deal in those areas can validate/verify that.

It did appear to be one of the problems during transition and items were getting omitted from the EIS program during conversion but the listings were still changed. Some sellers were getting messages from their international customers about shipping where they didn't have their own international shipping options in place as an example, this is not one of your listings but an example.

Re: EIS Migration - Can We Opt Out?

I was just opted in, listed some items today and I found this to be true. EIS shipping to Illinois was $43 for a small 5 lb. item. It would be less than $15 actually. I know the buyer will be paying this cost, but I don't think this  is any bargain to the buyer.

Supposedly when we add international shipping of our own, we override the EIS.

I've decided not not worry about the $17 shipping cost on my postcards and just worry about adding my own cost on things I want to ship internationally. (The $17 postcard cost is for my excluded countries anyway... there is a cost for international shipping on most of them).
