EBay turned on automatic return accept!

As we got in the office this morning we quickly noticed that eBay started auto accepting returns!

We did NOT turn on this feature and made sure it was off in the past.

We can make our own return labels, frankly I don't trust eBay to even give us a label with the proper price point. Nor do I trust them to cancel the label if the item is not shipped.

There doesn't seem to be any way on here to even see the shipping prices directly!

Ridiculous....

EBay turned on automatic return accept!

If you need special exceptions to the automated rules I would suggest calling and talking to a returns specialist and explain all your what if questions.

We only have the info ebay publishes and that is what we are trying to help you with.  Most of your answers have already been answered although they may not be what you wanted to hear?

Since you have outside eBay contract rates you might be able to do what many of the electronics sellers do?

They include inside the package a return shipping label for every package.  The buyer can then use the label by which the seller is charged the return shipping fee at that time or the buyer can not use it and the seller will not be charged for the return shipping label.

You should be able set this up with your carrier as part of your contracted rates.  You might even get lowered return shipping rates.

I'm only looking for fairness in the policy changes, and I just got off the phone with eBay where they admit to issues regarding this, specifically with communicating the policy changes clearly.

I'm not sure why you are so heavily calling it a "what if" when nearly any high volume seller uses negotiated rates, and this is a typical issue with return cases that is seen weekly, or sometimes daily, in high volume stores. I'm not sure why you are calling it "not what I want to hear" when eBay directly says you "may" use their automation, rather than "must" on the front page linked.

Usually other sellers can sympathize or empathize with unfair issues. It's strange that in this case, eBay's staff is being more understanding about the issues with returns right now, than other sellers are?

With that said, on the discussion with eBay on the phone, there IS a way to still allow yourself to send labels and use your own negotiated rates. On the phone, she turned on one of the RMA features, and once you use that, basically you will be given 2 days to send your own. If you do not by the 3rd day, THAT is when the label is automatically sent.

She apologized for this not being communicated clearly. And considering the 55 minute hold time, there's a huge amount of sellers just as upset by the lack of communication.

Anyone else having issues with the automatic returns, you can let out a sigh of relief. I'm not sure where exactly on the eBay site the RMA option is, but if you call in, they should be able to help you out.

Plus there's no insurance.

Plus if it's a 10# vase smashed to smithereens I would really prefer not to pay to get the shards returned.

You do realize the only way you can issue your own label is by not accepting the return?

You don't see the problem with that?

I noticed this last Friday. It was a "doesn't fit" remorse return on an item that was $10 with free shipping. I was thinking that since it would cost about $8 for the customer to send it back on their dime, they probably wouldn't. I rec'd it back on Wednesday, with an ebay generated label that showed "no postage necessary if mailed in the United States". So now it appears that not only are returns automatic, but ebay is also covering the buyer's postage for remorse returns.

What was the reason for the return? If you accept returns ebay auto accepts all buyers remorse returns last I knew.

Yup, either ebay is covering it or they are charging the buyers account. If ebay is covering the postage we are all paying for that with our ebay fees.

They told you about it in the 2018 summer seller update.  Click here to review

Starting July 2018, we will automate two steps in the returns process for buyers and sellers. The changes will save up to a week of processing time for you and your buyer.

Also starting next month  - Starting in August 2018, listings that you have not updated to one of the new returns policy options, including Good ‘Til Cancelled, will automatically be updated for you.

Also this might help you with the return shipping label costs

When a return shipping label is provided to a buyer, what type of label is provided?

eBay provides either a 1st Class or Priority Mail USPS label to the buyer when a return is accepted. The cost of the label is determined by the weight and dimensions of the package and will cost no more than the original outbound label if it was purchased on eBay.

It's a full-time job keeping up with ebay's never-ending policy changes.

Fwiw, appears now there will be no such thing as a case closed strike on a return. The system auto accepts any return, issues the label and the system will also now auto refund two days after tracking shows delivery.

"Doesn't Fit" is what they claimed so far.

They only said it will automatically update listings who are not using one of their new returns policy options, and these listings were using new return policy options.

So why, exactly, are they turning it on for our listings?

Furthermore, it says it will not exceed outbound label price if purchased on eBay, when we get better prices outside of eBay!

So basically, we not only must offer free returns now, but we must use eBay's labels for higher fees as well???

Is it even possible to shut this off???

Or any way to see what they are charging for these labels???

Or any way to see if they are properly voiding the label when the customer does not return???

I just checked the shipping labels page, it says no labels found. No way to check the charges for these labels???

I checked the returns page , we STILL have automatic returns set to OFF!

The only information I could find is it is telling us we must request to void a label within 5 days... what happens if the customer does not use the label within their alotted time then???

This is ridiculous!

I changed mine last month, looks like I still can.

Go to account>site preferences>return preferences>show>edit>action>edit brings you to a list with check boxes for automatic returns where you should be able to uncheck reasons...it's hard to find and kinda confusing.
