I've been selling steadily on eBay for 21 years, over 11,000 feedbacks. I have no negatives, no neutrals. I always take care of my buyers, no exceptions. I listed a $1 1882-O/S Morgan for 99c 10-day auction. This clown messages me that the two close-up images of the mintmark are two different coins. It is a declarative statement, not an inquiry. I write him back explaining how he's wrong. I stick to the facts, maintain professionalism, and don't attack the guy personally. Then, in response to my explanation, the fellow says that he has a friend who is a forensic photographic expert, so rather than accepting that the lighting is playing tricks on his eyes, he's escalating the matter to prove that he's correct. So I write him back and I tell him that it is a GREAT IDEA that he involves a forensic photographic analyst. I tell this fellow that his analysis is invited and will PROVE beyond all doubt that the two images are the same coin. The fellow threatens that he's going to report me and tell all of his friends what a crook I am. EBay removed all of this clown's commentary. My only recourse is to block this buyer. My feeling is that eBay is acting very unprofessional by deleting this person's threats from my messages. EBay is protecting a low-IQ and abusive person. I'm not a happy camper.

... I talked to eBay about them every way I could,
The phone reps work for a subcontracted call centre in Utah or the Philippines.
They mostly want to get you off the phone and fill their daily quota.
The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

You miss the point entirely. My issue is with eBay censoring messages, not the complaint from an idiot.

1st, you are being paranoid and attacking GOOD members that reply ALL the time. Why? Like me- retired...nothing better to do than get involved in other members minutia.
2nd- you are being rude to these members
3rd- and MOST importantly- ALL MESSAGES are also sent to your email and ebay has NO Access to those 'emails' to block/remove etc. them.
So, if you 'think' that is the case, see #1 above.

You're basically saying that it is wrong to recognize and point out censorship, corruption and a devious controlling platform.
In what way am I being rude? That's right: I wasn't rude whatsoever.
I'm outta here. Your opinions, while you are entitled to them, are uninspiring.

Since apparently you need reminding of how you dis'd those 5 responders; and like I said- they are on your email. They have NOT been 'removed'.
All these replies, all virtually instantaneous, seems contrived, as if people are hanging on this board just waiting for a person like myself to issue a comment. I'm sure that we all have busy lives and better things to do, especially on the day before a major holiday, rather than hanging on this board......The thing that really raises my suspicions: None of the five replies addresses my actual complaint. For certain I know how to block a buyer and I know when it is time to dis-engage from a conversation, but that wasn't my issue. My issue was that eBay is editing/eliminating message content from my message record. I think that these replies are most if not all AI generated. CREEPY that five responses would appear in a matter of minutes, none of them addressing my actual issue. I may not be long for this platform.

You saw the messages
You brought your dissatisfaction/angst with the messages to eBay's attention.
eBay removed them.
Buyers/sellers responding here have no idea what eBays other actions, if any, may be against the sender.
--------------------
and yup, we are just hanging here to assist posters with issues, when possible. Sometimes the responses are instantaneous. Different times of day, different IDs may reply.

Precisely!
This community board is a very strange place where 95% of the responses avoid the real issue.
You are welcome! And yeah it is messed up that eBay deleted those. But I also concur with everything my fellow members said, regarding messages from random people accusing you of falsifying anything in your listing. As a fellow coin person I know exactly what kind of optical illusions lighting angles can cause to tiny devices, and the camera can add even more distortion. I have also had people write claiming my jewelry isn't what I say (and KNOW) it is, just judging from my photographs, and because they are misinformed. -That's THEIR problem, in my book. They can go pound sand, and they sure as heck don't have to buy my stuff. When I receive a message like that, I just have a good private laugh while adding their name to my BBL, knowing I don't need to do business with a rookie that stupid. What's more, your guy sounds like such a steroid hot head, engaging with him could do nothing but make him more determined to "win the battle" (as guys like him see it).
In case you didn't know, when you block a buyer, they can continue sending you messages and they do NOT receive any kind of rejection or notice that they are blocked, and that you won't see any more messages from them. So he has probably written additional times, and thinks you are just ignoring him. -Now you can say "Good!" but there are ways he can make you stop ignoring him, and what you should have done was ignore him and blocked him after that very first message.
There is no "AI" on these Community forums. -Would you have thought that if you got 5 virtually instantaneous replies that gave you nothing but empathy like you wanted? This place is just regular people. We rarely ever agree 100% with each other on every reply. But if you ever have a real problem that you need a solution for, you would be farrrr better off coming here than calling eBay. This is where you can find out what's really going on, not the weird guesses and scripted flowery junk eBay feeds you.
But if you only see this as a place to dump your anger, don't clutch your pearls when it gets rejected. We're not your repository for that.

I'm not sure how someone with all of your experience fell for such an obvious tr0ll to begin with.
This person's nasty messages should still be in your emails. CS here is a little dense and probably thought that getting rid of the messages would fix the problem.
07-03-2024 10:47 PM
Do you mean if he receives copies of his eBay messages, sent to his private email account? If so, yes they should still be there. But maybe he has his account set to not send those (if that's possible, I don't know).

This is where I want to focus my reply.
Note this happened after you had reported them and blocked.
The most likely explanation is that eBay took some form of action on their account directly. Which may have also removed/altered the messages/content.
I have no way to back that up, but it sounds the most plausible reasoning for what you saw happen.
Personally, if it was a distasteful experience as it sounds, its probably better they were removed. You might have a copy in your actual e-mail if your account is set to copy you on messages. (mine is)
But I also agree with the others. There is no need to reply if you feel like your integrity is being questioned. Good luck though!

That would alarm me too. It isn't anything I've ever experienced myself and I haven't read any complaints from anyone else, however Ebay changes things so fast around here it is simply impossible to keep up with them.
Was it just the offensive stuff removed? If it was, then Ebay is aware of what this poster is doing.
I sincerely hope you are just blowing off steam about leaving over this one instance. Unless this happens often, is one issue worth leaving over? If you decide to do that, I so wish you well in whatever you end up doing.

That is likely exactly what happened. Now that makes sense. You reported the messages and then they messages got edited. I will see if I can find out anything on this subject.
I do see this differently than you do however. Ebay doesn't gain anything from "whitewash [ing]" stuff like this. But I can see them thinking it is better for the member to not have to look at the offending portions of the email anymore.
I don't think anyone was avoiding your issue. I'm not sure we understood the issue.

Those are some BIG accusations. You are this upset about not being able to go back and read this buyer's offensive emails to you whenever you want? Why?

I had a similar thing where a Black Buyer accused me of being a Racist because I did not send his item out same day paid when we had 3 handling days..never heard anything but that first email with these accusations. (I will shorten this for time) First had no idea he was black and he had no idea I was white..Then he verbally attacks be about hating all blacks & handicapped veterans and how I was a k-k member! I got vulgar language threats and so on. This was all within two days. I never said a mean thing to him. I just said that he must have been having a bad day and I would ship out the next day for him...Not good enough..The abuse went on..I eventually got a negative..ebay finally removed it but also removed all his back and forth to me.I was quite offended because my Sister adopted a little black baby that was addicted to d..gs and I love her like she was her biological daughter. That girl just graduated HS and is in trade school BTW. I felt they did that to protect someone not me obviously but them or him...strange place this can be. That was also about 4 years ago during covid.
